Well, our opponents -- the same ones who called Ferguson "a lie" and wanted NYC police officers to assist Trump and ICE with deportations -- are blowing a gasket. Ed Mullins and Paul DiGiacomo from the Sergeants Benevolent Association rushed to put out temper tantrums in the form of statements decrying Maya and denying any need for change in the force. And we probably don't have to tell you that, yes, their statements played fast and loose with racist and sexist stereotypes. All because Maya said she'd hold them accountable for the safety of New Yorkers. But that's not all. Right-wing trolls are also up in arms at the idea of a Black woman leading NYC and reforming the police department. Since launching the ad, we've seen racist and vile comments flooding Maya's mentions questioning her integrity, her intelligence, and her motives. Frankly, it's a lot, but we aren't going to back down from what's right. Maya is going to make sure this city is safe for us all by holding police accountable, increasing mental health training and resources, addressing homelessness, launching community-led gun violence prevention programs, and combating the systemic racism that wreaks havoc on so many lives. We're taking it as a GOOD sign that Ed Mullins and his ilk are mad about our new ad. It means it's working. While right-wingers spit into the wind, let's organize and make history. [We want to make sure as many New Yorkers as possible see our ad, which is why we're asking you to chip in $5 now.]( Thank you, Team Maya We're building a movement by and for the people of NYC.
