[ Hey {NAME}, We’ve been touching base the last few months about our County budget and how it’s been impacted by the COVID pandemic. We told you that the official recommendation from my office in this year's budget analysis was to refinance the County’s existing debt, a common sense best practice to take advantage of low interest rates, just like so many homeowners are doing. This option would ensure that there are no layoffs and no cuts to existing services that are in such critical need right now -- two things that are a nonstarter for us in this difficult economic time. Today, I’m so excited and grateful to tell you that the legislature reached a (bipartisan!) compromise, and agreed to this proposal! This compromise is the most practical, responsible path forward and saves you and your family money in the midst of this ongoing pandemic. But with all of that said, {NAME}, the federal government simply must step up and meet this moment by helping working families across the country, state, and local communities like ours. New York taxpayers paid $23.7 billion more in federal taxes than what we received back in federal spending in 2019, and in the middle of a pandemic when our state and county governments need to provide critical services to keep our communities on our feet, we need our fair share of aid. We did it here in Nassau, and residents will be better off for it. It’s high-time now that Congress passed a COVID relief bill to benefit our frontline and essential workers, and working families.
