Our democracy is still at stake Dear {NAME}, When President Trump was elected, I told you the NYCLU

Our democracy is still at stake Dear {NAME}, When President Trump was elected, I told you the NYCLU would not compromise when it comes to our rights. We would not let them hijack New York as we know it. Since then, we have been on the front-lines of the Trump resistance movement. By working together with you and impacted communities, we have been fulfilling our promise. New York has maintained hope and resilience thanks to your incredible support – but our rights and our democracy are still under attack, and we still need you with us. [Your gift today will help the NYCLU fight for democracy and equality in New York in 2018](. Here are just a few ways we’ve been fulfilling our promise: - We are fighting against Trump’s Muslim Ban at the airports, in the courts, and in the streets. Just last month, we secured a major victory for refugee asylum-seekers who were being held unlawfully at the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility. And we’re in the courts to protect child refugees from Central America who are being held without due process. - We are protecting vulnerable pillars of our democracy. Last month, we filed a voting rights lawsuit against the East Ramapo School District because its elections systematically disenfranchise Black and Latino residents. We’ve partnered with the ACLU to take on partisan gerrymandering at the Supreme Court. And we beat back a misguided proposal to hold a state constitutional convention that would have opened our hard-won rights and protections to "repeal and replace." - The president and Attorney General Sessions have their own backwards vision of “law and order,” but we’re making New York a state where all are equal before the law. We stopped the use of solitary confinement on teenagers in Onondaga County, and we are working to expand that into statewide policy. And we are closely monitoring the implementation of a state law we won this year that guarantees the right to a lawyer for all New Yorkers charged with crimes. There’s more to do. With the backing of generous supporters like you, we will keep resisting. We’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg. With every executive order, legislative push and tweet the Trump regime – including the congressional majority – demonstrates that the hatred, bullying, discrimination and fearmongering that shaped the Trump campaign continues to threaten our democracy. [Renew your support: New York must lead the fight against the biggest threat to our democracy in our lifetimes – the president himself](. Thank you again for all you’ve done this year.
