It was only ever about one thing Dear {NAME}, Anti-immigrant forces are emboldened, from the presidency to state and local levels. That’s why it is more important than ever for our courts to be a bulwark against racism and xenophobia. Last month, the courts did just that with a law in Oyster Bay, Long Island. A federal appeals court ruled that the town’s ban on day laborers seeking work in public spaces is unconstitutional. It found that the ban violated the First Amendment's guarantee of free speech. [This anti-immigrant law fits a pattern – discover its surprising link to President Trump](. Since the ban was enacted in 2009, the town claimed it was needed to make sidewalks and streets safer for pedestrians and traffic. But the town was never able to show why. Instead, the real intent was clear – drive immigrants away from Oyster Bay. Thankfully the ban never had a chance to go into effect because the NYCLU sued to stop it. And we’ve fought it ever since. [Read about this victory and the truth behind this unconstitutional law](. If Oyster Bay continues to defend the ban in court, we will be there again to fight for the rights of all New Yorkers.
