Apparently, investigating the theft of classified nuclear documents is an "unprecedented attack on former President Trump." {NAME},  I want to address the email on the FBI that Doug LaMalfa sent out on Monday. It was a completely inappropriate attack on the American legal system. LaMalfa clearly feels that President Trump should be above the law: he has placed his fealty to Trump above his oath to the Constitution of the United States.  If you didn't get LaMalfa's email, here's the paragraph in question:  Preserving Our Republic Last week we saw an unprecedented attack on former President Trump. No former President of the United States has ever been subjected to a raid on their personal residence in American history. This raid undermines the public’s confidence in our system of justice and reinforces skepticism of our FBI and Department of Justice, especially after it was proven that agents have acted on political motivation before. Ultimately, this is another ruthless attempt by the Left to influence the 2024 election. I share the deep concerns of the millions of Americans who have spoken out and demand justice. Unrelenting partisanship by our governing agencies is unconstitutional. We need an immediate investigation into Attorney General Merrick Garland as to why this action was taken. Trump, when he was a candidate in the 2016 Republican Party presidential primaries, opposed Garland’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing that Justice Scalia’s replacing appointment should be made by the next president. It looks like Garland is still holding onto this resentment, and this could be insight into why he “personally approved the search”. Any official who harbors such public bad blood over a former president isn’t fit for the Supreme Court.  Suffice to say, it's ridiculous. Apparently, investigating the theft of classified nuclear documents is an "unprecedented attack on former President Trump." I guess we can give LaMalfa some points for - finally - admitting that Trump is a FORMER president. However, the idea that Trump should somehow be above the law is a corrosive one. This duly executed, entirely lawful search warrant was not "another ruthless attempt by the Left to influence the 2024 election." It was investigating a crime. To claim that any investigation of a GOP politician is a "political attack" really means that LaMalfa wants legal immunity for GOP leaders.  It's very clear that LaMalfa, like many of his GOP fellow travelers, only cares about the law insofar as he can use it against political opponents. To the modern GOP, the law is a weapon for political control, not a tool for justice. LaMalfa wants laws for the Democrats, impunity for the Republicans.  Donald Trump stole classified material. That is likely a crime. At the very least, it deserves investigation - and Trump's refusal to hand over the documents prompted an entirely appropriate FBI search warrant of his property. That is how the rule of law works in a functional, western democracy: our leaders are legally accountable for their actions.  LaMalfa does not see it that way: to him the state is "the enemy" because his party does not control it. It's not about legal/illegal actions, or right/wrong; to him it's all about protecting "his side" no matter what.  LaMalfa's hypocrisy and aggrieved self-victimhood is incredibly dangerous. Many of those who receive LaMalfa's email will agree with it - and they will be further radicalized against law enforcement. We have already seen an attack on the FBI in Ohio: this kind of language raises the risk of similar violence here in the North State.  I'm running against LaMalfa because his lies about the 2020 election and his refusal to certify the results convinced me that LaMalfa did not belong in office. This email is yet another example of his moral and intellectual failings. The election in November is not one between Democrats and Republicans, it is an election between democrats and autocrats. The election in November is not one between Democrats and Republicans, it is an election between democrats and autocrats. If you ready to hold them accountable, chip in $10 to help us reaching more voters and give LaMalfa the fight of his political career.]( [Donate]( Max Steiner Combat Veteran and Democrat for Congress --------------------------------------------------------------- Paid for by Max Steiner for Congress 2485 Notre Dame Blvd, Ste 370 #194 Chico, CA 95928 Sent via [ActionNetwork.org](.
