{NAME}, Doug LaMalfa sent out another e-Newsletter on April 7th. So in response, and due to popular demand, here's my rebuttal: First off, many of supporters have noted that LaMalfa now wants you to sign up to receive newsletters moving forward. Why? Because it’s election season, and Congressmembers facing tough re-election fights send "campaign" material to residents while disguising it as “constituent messaging.” It's essentially taxpayer funded campaign activity. LaMalfa has zero respect for election law, just as he has zero respect for elections – as shown by his embrace of the Big Lie conspiracy and vote against certification. Our democracy is built on rules, and LaMalfa prefers to pay lip service while doing his best to evade the intent. The rules he can get away with breaking, he breaks. And the rules he is afraid to break, he bends. The big news from the update is that LaMalfa is actually working with Democrats for once to improve the lives of Camp Fire victims. Paradise residents should never have had to pay taxes on lawyer fees or settlements, but it has taken LaMalfa three years to work with Democrats to get the bill passed. Here’s the thing: it’s always good to see bipartisan bills in Congress (the Tax Exemption Bill is co-sponsored by Democratic Congressman Mike Thompson). It’s just a shame it’s so rare to see LaMalfa put constituent needs above his petty, personal need to spew invectives at the Democrats when he could be working with them. Unsurprisingly, after bragging about his newfound bipartisan spirit, LaMalfa goes right back to complaining about the Democratic Party. First, he complains about the budget. Think about that for a second: A Congressmen who has sucked up millions of dollars in rice subsidies and who voted for the massive tax cut for the rich that has been adding to the deficit since the Republicans passed it in 2017 wants to pretend he's on our side. Shamelessness, thy name is Doug. Then, he moves on to complaining about energy. He spends six paragraphs complaining about gas prices without mentioning Ukraine. Here’s the deal: the reason gas prices are high is because Putin invaded Ukraine and is killing civilians. LaMalfa ignores the suffering of Ukrainian to score political points. LaMalfa’s latest email meanders through a series of topics without ever demonstrating any understanding of the deeper issues at play. In that way, it’s a lot like a Trump speech -- and that is not meant as a compliment. He is an embarrassment to the district and we need to defeat him in November. [Every time LaMalfa use his office as a megaphone for his extremist views, we need respond in-kind with our own messaging -- online, on the airwaves, and in mailboxes. Doing that takes resources which is why we are depending on support from readers like you.
