I believe we need to address climate change to stop these megafires. Doug LaMalfa believes climate change is a hoax {NAME}, There's a lot going on in the news, but one issue that's never out of mind in the North State is forestry and fire suppression. Our communities have been ravaged by fires over the past three years. In 2018, The Carr Fire burned down 1,600 structures -- including my brother's home. The Camp Fire caused $16.7 billion in damages. Last year saw the largest fire in state history -- The Dixie Fire -- destroy the town of Greenville and cost $630 million to extinguish. It wasn’t long ago the skies looked like this in the Bay Area. It can happen again if we don’t act. It's easy to succumb to hopelessness, especially as these fires grow in intensity as a consequence of a changing climate, but it doesn't have to be this way. We don't lack solutions to wildfires -- we lack the political willpower and bipartisan resolve to implement them. My opponent Doug LaMalfa sits on the Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry, but he hasn't done nearly enough to prevent wildfires in the North State. He excels at photo ops, but doesn’t do the research to hold the Forest Service accountable to do their jobs. It's simple: I believe in science. Doug LaMalfa does not. I believe we need to address climate change to stop these megafires. Doug LaMalfa believes climate change is a hoax. We can and must do better.
