Which company joins the ranks of Spotify, Waze and Accuweather in a landmark platform making it potentially available in millions of vehicles globally? The innovative app of leading audio-based social media company, HearMeOut (ASX: HMO) has just announced joining SmartDeviceLink (SDL) global platform. For a small technology company with a market cap of around $13 million, the SDL integration represents phenomenal commercial validation. The move could significantly increase HearMeOut’s addressable market with martDeviceLink Consortium (SDLC) members accounting for 34% of the 17.5 million car sales in the US in 2016. The platform is overseen by a consortium established by the Ford Motor Company and Toyota Motor Corporation and includes car manufacturers and brands such as Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Subaru, Suzuki, Peugeot, Citroen, DS and Daihatsu. SDL is a standard set of protocols that connect apps on a smartphone to a vehicle in-dash head unit, creating completely new and unique driving experience. Several audio equipment suppliers have also recently joined the consortium, in addition to leading brands Harman, Panasonic and Pioneer, which have recently signed letters of intent to become members. The SDLC is challenging Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the rapidly growing, global connected car market. The HearMeOut app is quickly emerging as a significant player in the connected car space. Already, the app is available for download in new Ford vehicles in the UK and Ireland and with some of the largest global automakers already on board, the potential growth prospects for HearMeOut are enormous. “We think HearMeOut is particularly interesting because it gives drivers a way to access social media while keeping their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel,” said Scott Lyons, business and partner development, Ford Connected Vehicle and Services EMEA. HearMeOut now joins the ranks of some of the world’s most popular apps including Spotify, Waze and Accuweather which are also integrated on the SDL platform. Doug VanDagens, chairman of the SmartDeviceLink Consortium added: “HearMeOut is a great fit for us because it’s a promising social audio network that is unique in that it is built to be hands-free from the ground up.” “We are excited that HearMeOut has decided to support SDL and become a safe social component into the ecosystem we are creating.” HearMeOut fills a gap in today’s social media landscape, allowing users a hands-free and eyes-free social media experience. Available on iOS and Android, it enables users to share and listen to 42-second audio posts through the platform’s native feed or on other social networks, such as Twitter or Facebook. Through this app, people can express their authentic voice and put their unique signature on social media interactions.
