Itâs really one of the only movies thatâs centered around Thanksgivingâ¦and it features two of the best comedians of all time. And theyâre having a super challenging time trying to get home to their families before Thanksgiving. Have you guessed what it is yet? Iâll give you a little hint⦠[Plains, trains, and automobiles]( I hear some people make it a tradition to watch this movie together every year, and I think thatâs a damn fine idea! And, thinking about it, why does Thanksgiving get the short end of the Holiday movies stick? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas... (I'm a regular Clark Griswold over here... not the real Chevy Chase, mind you... He's kind of an ass... But his character from Christmas Vacation... who, come to think of it, is also kind of an ass....) Anyway, I love Christmas, is what I'm tryna say... But you gotta admit, it's kinda weird that there are 75,000 Christmas movies from Snoopy to Jimmy Stewart, to the Muppets, to weird Christmas horror movies (like Home Alone... That kid is CREEPY!) But only like 4 Thanksgiving ones. (If you don't count pilgrim propaganda movies they make you watch in elementary school... They still make kids watch those?) Off the top of my head, I can think of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (above) and Scent of A Woman... (which lets be honest, ain't really a family movie...) [Update: I Googled It... Did you know that the Blind Side is a Thanksgiving movie, according to Google? Yeah, me either... I don't remember that movie being about Thanksgiving. If I recall, it was about football...) And look at this. Under "Thanksgiving Comedies", Google gets 3 (THREE!) movies in before it gives up and tries to sneak in a Christmas movie: I'm calling Cheech. We need to make a Thanksgiving movie. Maybe we can call it "Smoked Turkeys"... (just spit-ballin'...) Anyway, if you are traveling today, let me just wish you a very safe journey, that doesn't involve cars on fire, melted speedometers, or any other mishaps. Safe travels!
