But that’s not the end of the story… When I was finally able to see him (12 hours after he was rushed off to the NICU), they told me they had found bacteria in my placenta, so he needed to go through all kinds of tests to make sure he didn’t have an infection. I’ll spare you the gnarly details, but both of us ended up needing a round of pretty serious antibiotics. While all of this was happening, Jalil got an ear infection and ALSO needed to be on antibiotics (we gotta love the solidarity!) Needless to say… …I was totally and completely unplugged from my business this whole time. I expected to be in the newborn bubble after birth, but I didn’t expect to be unable to even pick up my phone for nearly two weeks. It wasn’t until 12 days after our baby was born that we were finally able to go home. And as any parent reading this knows, that day is full of fear of the unknown, mixed with excitement, mixed with the knowledge that true parenthood is beginning… NOW! Four months later, I feel like my old self again. But it took a LOT of processing and healing to get here. I’m so thankful that I was able to give myself the time and space I needed.
