Point in case: A few weeks ago, we were casually meandering around Barcelona â through alleys, tree-lined streets, and cobblestone paths. Baby boy was in tow, and he went from âIâm okayâ to âI NEED TO GO TO THE PARK NOWâ⦠fast. 𤣠(Honestly, I canât blame him. Eating sand is way more interesting than watching his parents drink sparkling water on a patio.) While we were high-tailing it to the park, I dialled in for a quick team meeting, and thought about how Iâve learned to roll with things turning out differently than expected. Instagram, it seems, had one of those moments too, just last week. ð On Friday, the @Creators account on Instagram posted a video saying that users shouldnât try to âhack engagementâ by asking for certain keywords in the comment section⦠=â WHAT?! It took just a few seconds for utter confusion to break out. ð¤ First, this would mean that itâs âwrongâ to ask people to comment a keyword on their posts â which is the whole strategy behind the âcomment keywordâ phenomenon happening now on social. ð¤ð¤ Second, Manychat (the most popular chatbot software that powers DM automations) is a VERIFIED PARTNER of Instagram. ð¤ð¤ð¤ Additionally, the data from my years of using Manychat shows that posts asking for engagement (AKA certain keywords) DO, in fact, get recommended to non-followers. After hours of confused comments stacked up under their video, Instagram removed it. (The @Creators account doesn't have the strongest history of giving out reliable and accurate information. Sorry, not sorry.) So here's the bottom line: â
Manychat is STILL a verified partner of Instagram â
Itâs still okay (and super profitable) to use DM automation â
IGâs video was giving silly, just-plain-wrong advice and has since been removed â
Your post reach will NOT be limited by asking for engagement Additionally, head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, continues to invest in DMs because it's where people spend the most time â over stories and over scrolling the feed. â¤µï¸ So if you want to meet your customers where they're at and immediately serve them, automated DMs are the way to do it.
