Extreme risk laws are proactive ways to prevent gun violence and keep a temporary crisis from becoming a permanent tragedy. The Extreme Risk Protective Order Act of 2019 is currently before Congress — we just need our leaders to act. She joined a panel focused on how we can build safer schools in our communities by advocating for fewer guns in schools and more emotional support for students. We’re excited to announce our End Family Fire Scholarship Competition. The competition challenges high school and college-aged students to create a video that brings awareness to the issue of “family fire” — which refers to a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun found in the home. Two winning entries will be selected — one from a high school entrant and another from college — to receive a $5,000 scholarship. Winners will have the opportunity to have their video aired, with the potential to be distributed to over 1,600 TV stations across the country. Entries are due June 16, 2019.
