Help us build on our 2018 election successes. [We need your help NOW to halt gun violence.]( Dear {NAME}, The 2018 elections gave a massive boost to the Brady Campaign's work to end the scourge of gun violence that kills more than 35,000 Americans annually. Now we must move quickly to make the most of the opportunities created by our election successes, and make real progress toward ending the gun violence epidemic. [The Brady Campaign needs your help TODAY to advance real solutions to halt gun violence in America.]( I wanted to share with you the below email I received from Ky Hunter, our Vice President for Programs, which analyzes the impacts of last year's elections and outlines our strategies for advancing gun violence prevention legislation. [Help the Brady Campaign take full advantage of our election gains by making a special gift today.]( Momentum is on our side. But we still face serious obstacles — including a hostile administration and a Senate led by a staunch supporter of the gun industry — and we need your help today to succeed. Please take a moment now to review Ky's email to see what we are planning for the year ahead and why your continued support is so critical. With deepest thanks for your generosity, Kris Brown President P.S. We have an extraordinary window of opportunity to make major inroads against gun violence. Please help us make the most of the historic change in the national political landscape [by making a special gift to the Brady Campaign today.]( [DONATE NOW]( ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kyleanne Hunter Sent: Monday, January 28, 2019 6:49 PM To: Kris Brown Subject: Seizing historic opportunities to reduce gun violence Hi Kris, With the 116th Congress already in session, I want to briefly outline the changes to the national political landscape following the 2018 elections and lay out our roadmap for achieving the Brady Campaign's main legislative goals. In November, more than 60 candidates backed by the Brady Campaign won their races for Congress and governorships, and we secured a pro-gun violence prevention majority in the United States House of Representatives. Now we need [the help of our supporters]( to make the most of these victories — to achieve real legislative change to make America safer. We are already working closely with the new U.S. House leadership and our other congressional allies to implement our comprehensive gun violence prevention agenda to: - Strengthen the Brady Background Check System to include guns sold at gun shows and over the Internet — We were successful in getting the House and Senate to introduce this on January 8th (H.R. 8/ S. 42), and will be working to make sure it gets passed; - Limit access to assault weapons and high-capacity magazines by reinstituting the federal assault weapon ban that expired in 2004; and - Enact extreme-risk protection laws to keep guns out of the hands of people in danger of harming themselves or others. The outcome of the 2018 elections showed the broad approval for the Brady Campaign's legislative agenda. Now our challenge is to translate that overwhelming support into real and lasting change — and [the help of Brady Campaign supporters]( is the key to our success. Our team is working closely with the U.S. House Judiciary, Government Oversight, Energy and Commerce, and Appropriations Committees — as well as with the Gun Violence Prevention House Task Force — to keep moving our legislative priorities forward. However, we face significant challenges ahead. The gun industry, with its deep pockets and substantial political clout, will be fighting us tooth-and-nail every step of the way. We are also facing an openly hostile administration bent on rolling back our background check system and a Senate led by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a favorite of the gun lobby. To overcome this stiff opposition, we MUST have [the help of committed Brady Campaign supporters](. Please share this message with our strongest supporters to let them know what we have planned for the year ahead and why their continued generosity is so critical at this time. Thanks!
