We need your voice for Rocky » [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( [YOUR ACTION TODAY CAN SAVE A LIFE »]( Dear {NAME}, My name is Kacey, and I write to you on behalf of my client, Rocky Myers. I have been representing Rocky for 16 years, and I am always amazed by his generosity, gentle demeanor and kindness. He is the father of four, grandfather to nine, and great-grandfather to one. He is loved by all his family, and really anyone he encounters. As a child, he was diagnosed as having an intellectual disability, and as an adult continues to struggle with reading, writing, or keeping dates and times straight. [Rocky Myers]( [TELL GOVERNOR IVEY: Commute Rocky Myers’ Death Sentence]( One fateful day in 1991 changed Rocky’s life forever. In Decatur, Alabama, an elderly white woman was murdered in a predominantly Black neighborhood. Rocky, who is Black, lived across the street and was charged with the murder. He maintains his innocence. The only evidence linking him to the murder was the victim’s video cassette recorder, which Rocky maintains he found abandoned in the alley behind his home. [{NAME}]( we have to take action for Rocky. Please, add your name to demand action now »]( Testimonies against him were tainted by inconsistencies and allegations of police pressure. One key witness later stated that he had lied. An overwhelmingly white jury found Rocky guilty, recommending life imprisonment. The judge overruled the jury, which is now illegal in Alabama, and sentenced Rocky to death. Burdened with ineffective legal representation and abandoned by his post-conviction lawyer, Rocky missed key appeal deadlines. Despite the U.S. Supreme Court’s ban on executions of people with intellectual disabilities, his could be set at any time. His only hope is for the governor of Alabama to commute his death sentence. You can help give him that hope. Your words have power.
