It’s been three months since we heard from Haitham and Nidal… [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( [URGENT: TAKE ACTION FOR PALESTINIAN JOURNALISTS »]( Dear {NAME}, Right now, two Palestinian journalists from the occupied Gaza Strip are in Israeli custody. We have no idea of their whereabouts, if they are safe, or if they are alive. On October 7th, Haitham Abdelwahed and Nidal al-Waheidi were reporting on the Hamas-led attacks in southern Israel when they were detained by Israeli forces. It’s been three months, and there have been no updates on Haitham and Nidal. We need your help, {NAME}. Haitham and Nidal are being held under conditions that constitute enforced disappearance, a crime under international law. [PLEASE TAKE ACTION: Write to the Israeli military advocate general now on behalf of Palestinian journalists »]( Since October 7th, Israeli authorities have confirmed that six Palestinian detainees have died in Israeli custody — and the autopsy of at least one of them showed clear signs of beatings and torture.1 Two of these detainees were from the occupied Gaza Strip, and their families only learned about their loved ones’ deaths when other detainees from Gaza were released. I am deeply concerned about Haitham and Nidal and what they may be enduring. Even after Israeli human rights organization HaMoked petitioned the Israeli Supreme Court to demand information about them, the court refused and replied by saying “Israel held no obligation towards residents of the Gaza Strip.” I’m asking you personally because it’s important. [Will you send a letter on behalf of journalists Haitham and Nidal? It will only take a minute, and it could be the difference between them remaining detained or seeing their families again.]( [ Haitham Abdelwahed and Nidal al-Waheidi]( [TAKE ACTION FOR NIDAL AND HAITHAM]( Recently, there have been many horrifying cases of torture, humiliation and degrading treatment of Palestinians by Israeli forces shared widely online. Those instances include scenes of Israeli soldiers beating detained Palestinians while they were blindfolded, stripped to their underwear, with their hands tied behind their backs. This public display of torture is unacceptable. If you’ve seen these videos, you know that’s not how any human being should be treated. Palestinians must have their human rights protected. As a community focused on defending human rights, especially in times of crisis — we have an obligation to act. [Will you join me in demanding information about or the release of detained journalists Haitham and Nidal?]( [Every letter sent could make a difference. Please take action now »]( Thank you, Elizabeth Rghebi Advocacy Director, Middle East North Africa Amnesty International USA [1] [( [DONATE NOW]( © 2024 Amnesty International USA 311 W 43rd Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10036 | 1-800-AMNESTY Please don't reply to this email.
