Counting on you to raise your voice for Leonard Peltier >> [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( Dear {NAME}, Today should be a happy day for Leonard Peltier. In a just world, he’d be celebrating his 79th birthday back home, surrounded by friends and loved ones. But instead he’s imprisoned despite serious and ongoing concerns about his trial and conviction — and has been for nearly 50 years. Leonard was convicted in 1977 related to the deaths of two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Amnesty and many others have long had concerns about the fairness of his trial, and he has always maintained his innocence. American Indian Movement member Joseph Stuntz was also killed that day, and his death has never been properly investigated. Right now, on Leonard’s birthday, Indigenous activists and allies are gathered at the White House, rallying to demand his freedom. Even though you’re not there with them in-person, we need your help to amplify their calls. [We’re calling on President Biden to FINALLY grant clemency to Leonard Peltier. You can help today by signing the petition. Add your name now »]( [It only takes a few moments to show your support for Native American Elder Leonard Peltier.]( [Leonard Peltier]( [Take action for Leonard Peltier]( It’s long past time for Leonard Peltier to receive clemency, given both the serious concerns about his trial and his health status. He’s spent nearly 50 years in prison already. Some of that time while being held in solitary confinement. He suffers from a number of life-threatening illnesses, and after contracting COVID-19 last year, his health is even more fragile. Time is running out for Leonard Peltier. It’s a priority for us and so many Indigenous activists and leaders to get him back to his community as soon as possible. President Biden promised to broadly use his clemency power during his administration. We need to keep the pressure on to free him before it’s too late. [Sign the petition now and tell President Biden to immediately grant clemency to Leonard Peltier on humanitarian grounds and as a matter of justice.]( Tribal Nations, Nobel Peace Laureates, former FBI agents, numerous others, and even the former U.S. Attorney, James Reynolds, whose office handled the prosecution, have called for Leonard Peltier’s release. [His continued imprisonment is an injustice. But your voice can make a difference at this pivotal moment for Leonard Peltier.]( Thank you for your support, Isra Chaker Senior Campaign Manager Amnesty International USA [P.S. After you take action to demand clemency for Leonard Peltier, you can send him a letter of solidarity and support.
