{NAME}, we need your voice, but we haven't heard from you... [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( [Do you believe the death penalty should be abolished? Yes]( [Do you believe the death penalty should be abolished? Not sure]( {NAME}, Our records show that you haven’t [taken an online action]( recently to advance human rights, and we want to remind you how powerful your voice is. For those who are oppressed or in danger, our voices are a lifeline. Today, we need [your voice]( in our campaign against a grave human rights violation in the U.S.: the death penalty. After the Trump administration oversaw more executions than any president in 120 years — including 13 executions in its last 6 months — Attorney General Merrick Garland announced a moratorium on executions in July 2021, pending the review of policies and procedure by the Department of Justice. [{NAME}, we have an opportunity to abolish the death penalty, for good. Send your letter directly to President Biden today.]( President Biden has been outspoken about his opposition to the death penalty, and campaigned on the promise of eliminating it. But we need to get LOUD, and make sure this administration prioritizes getting rid of the death penalty — once and for all. [Use your voice to abolish the death penalty in the US. Add your name >>]( For 40 years, Amnesty has been campaigning to abolish the death penalty around the world. Today, two-thirds of the world’s countries (that’s 180 countries!) have either abolished the death penalty outright, or no longer use it in practice — a sea change from when we started this work the 1970s, when only 16 countries had outlawed capital punishment. But here at home, things are different. In the United States, only 23 states have abolished the death penalty. [We need to amp up the pressure until it’s abolished for the federal government and in all 50 states — we need your name.]( The death penalty violates the right to life. It is the ultimate cruel, inhumane, and degrading punishment. Amnesty opposes the death penalty in all cases, and without exception — regardless of who is accused, the nature or circumstances of the crime, guilt or innocence, or method of execution. [We must keep fighting until this inhumane practice is abolished forever. Take action now »]( Your voice — when combined with millions of other voices — is so powerful. I hope you’ll use it today and in the coming weeks as we fight for human rights. It can help abolish the death penalty once and for all. Billie Hirsch Senior Director, Online Engagement Amnesty International USA P.S. President Biden promised to work to pass legislation to eliminate the death penalty at the federal level — and we need to hold him accountable to keeping his promise.
