/GGXAzTBt__Dynh0bqjUFlwVRV1as4E8xaP5gB6Ctpg8= {NAME}, As the grandson of a preacher, I know how important worship is, especially in times of crisis and uncertainty. That's why I thank all religious leaders and worshippers who are practicing social distancing and reducing public contact by worshipping outside of their usual places of worship. Recently, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order choosing to protect those who attend schools by limiting access to schools, but not those who attend worship. He chose to protect educators and children who attend school, but failed to protect worshippers by temporarily limiting access to places of worship. Places of worship have experienced COVID-19 outbreaks in South Korea, Alabama, and Washington, DC. Right now, we need to be doing everything we can to prevent social gatherings and reduce public contact. Drastic action is the only way to slow the spread of this virus, keep our healthcare system from becoming overburdened, and save lives. That’s why I continue to call on Governor Abbott to amend his executive order and temporarily limit access to places of worship. Limiting access to places of worship does not prevent worshippers from worshipping -- but it can prevent viral spread and save lives. I will continue to do everything I can to protect Americans’ health and wellbeing throughout this crisis. Sometimes that may mean standing alone -- but I do so knowing it’s better to stand alone than not stand at all. -- Congressman Al Green --------------------------------------------------------------- Congressman Al Green has served the people of Texas' 9th district for 15 years.
