/1y0zJi6n_nPtzWktkcJ-ZnNwx0N1vKUfKKo96jl4UII= {NAME}, This week, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia and I penned two congressional letters urging Governor Abbott and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to expand mobile COVID-19 testing sites for hard-hit communities here in Texas. One of the most important steps in defeating COVID-19 and getting our country back to normal is testing. Without adequate testing, COVID-19 experts won’t be able to understand the extent of the pandemic, which means they can’t work effectively to stop it from spreading. And with Texas Governor Abbott planning on reopening large numbers of unessential businesses next week, the need for testing is more critical than ever. That’s why Congresswoman Garcia and I are choosing to stand up for communities of color in Texas. It is well documented that people of color are dying at disproportionately high rates due to COVID-19. As lawmakers, we have a responsibility to take care of our most vulnerable -- our Black, Latino, elderly, and other vulnerable communities. We cannot leave these groups behind -- and expanded testing is critical to preventing further spread in these already struggling communities. And of course, increased testing will benefit all by reducing the spread of COVID-19, saving lives, and getting America back to work as soon and safely as possible. I and my colleagues in the House are continuing to do all we can to battle this pandemic and provide relief for struggling Americans. In the meantime, remember to continue social distancing and stay safe! In service and solidarity, Congressman Al Green --------------------------------------------------------------- Congressman Al Green has served the people of Texas' 9th district for 15 years. He is a progressive leader in Washington and was the first Member of Congress to introduce articles of impeachment against President Trump on the House floor.
