/esAB6ikzlJcuB0GbDOLL2LO5UM7U19fPHLXsEgAoXb0= {NAME}, I know this public health emergency has been hard on many of us. Many are without jobs, risking their lives as essential workers, or worrying about an unstable economy. Today, I want to discuss small businesses, which have been hit with brutal force by COVID-19. I’m proud to introduce two new bills in the House to help speed the delivery of emergency funds to small businesses, their employees, and the self-employed. I have supported efforts to bring relief to small businesses in the form of grants, loans, and debt relief, and I’m proud to say that Congress has passed many of these necessary measures. But unfortunately, as of now, there are many barriers to receiving this existing support. Small business owners, especially those in underserved communities, continue to face bureaucratic obstacles when it comes to receiving small business aid. We need to do everything we can to ease these burdens. That’s why I introduced legislation to speed up the delivery of emergency funds. Small businesses can only survive for so long without this aid. My legislation will also expand eligibility for the Paycheck Protection Program so certain businesses are not shut out from this essential program by outdated regulations. And finally, it will expand the scope of the Paycheck Protection Program to allow small minority-owned banks, rural banks, and credit unions to provide these loans. I am working hard to secure the full support that small businesses, small business owners, and their employees need to make it through this pandemic. Small businesses are a vital part of our economy, and I hope that they will soon be able to flourish again.
