This year’s theme is “support nurses and midwives.” Right now, millions of nurses and midwives -- as well as doctors, EMTs, pharmacists, and other health workers -- are risking their own safety to treat patients infected with COVID-19. They are working around the clock to ensure every patient receives the best care possible despite drastic shortages in ICU beds, ventilators, and personal protective equipment (PPE). I have been working with people, organizations, and companies to distribute nearly 20,000 unused PPE masks to healthcare workers here in Houston, and I will continue to advocate for those on the front lines to receive the resources they need to treat patients safely and effectively.
