/PVdPeik_lszyehQjxZGQaClhEceHiZWbclHolNHV4Zk= {NAME}, As you all know COVID-19, or Coronavirus, has reached the United States. There are now over 1,000 confirmed cases in the U.S., including more than 30 here in Texas, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been canceled to ensure public safety. The single most important step we can all take to minimize the spread and impact of the virus is to be informed. Here’s what you need to know: - Typical symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. If you or someone around you is experiencing these symptoms, contact a doctor immediately. - Wash your hands often, especially before eating or after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose. Hands should be washed for 20 seconds with soap. If soap is not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. - Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as much as possible, and wipe down “high-touch” surfaces frequently. - If you are sick, please stay home except to seek medical care. While you may not be at risk for serious infection, others around you -- including the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions -- could be at great risk. - If you are a resident of Harris County seeking healthcare or information, call 713-634-1110. If you are a resident of Fort Bend County, call 281-633-7795. Unfortunately, the White House has failed to respond to this crisis with the concern and professionalism the American people deserve, from downplaying the number of cases to failing to prepare enough testing materials for the coming weeks. This is a matter of public health, and now is not the moment for political games. That’s why I’m calling on President Trump to appoint a doctor or scientist -- NOT Vice President Pence -- to lead the government's response to COVID-19.
