4 takeaways from our webinar ➡️ [View in browser]( [World Food Program USA.]( [DONATE]( Hi {NAME}, Have you ever wondered how the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) responds to climate emergencies? Then you need to watch Episode 6 of our Zero Hunger Impact Series. Sibi Lawson-Marriott from the U.N. World Food Programme Regional Bureau for Eastern Africa shared how, thanks to our community of donors, we can anticipate and respond to floods, heatwaves and other climate-related disasters to minimize the impact on food systems. [WATCH NOW]( Here are our top four takeaways from the webinar: - Climate disasters are especially devastating in regions where the majority of the population's livelihoods are connected to the land like raw material work, farming or herding livestock. That means these populations are at higher risk of losing access to food or income when climate disasters strike. - 18 million people are displaced because of climate in eastern Africa. In response, the U.N. World Food Programme prioritizes activities that strengthen local food systems, so people don't need to leave home. No other agency in the region can reach the scale of people we can thanks to new technology that warns communities when climate events are expected. - The U.N. World Food Programme has provided food and cash assistance to nearly 580,000 people affected by the floods across the Horn of Africa, in addition to those supported through ongoing relief operations. - The communities we serve are disproportionately affected by environmental decisions made outside the continent. The need is urgent – as individuals we must work together to solve the climate crisis. What can World Food Program USA supporters do to help? "Funding is the biggest thing we need," Lawson-Marriott stressed. "And get the word about our work to your networks. We all have a part to play." Thank you for your partnership in our mission to end hunger. Sincerely, [Dorota's signature.] Dorota Amin Chief Philanthropy and Partnerships Officer World Food Program USA P.S.
