[World Food Program USA.]( Mother's Day can be a difficult day. Please skip this if you need to. As always, thank you for your support. {NAME}, Around the world, there are mothers facing conflict, extreme weather events and forced displacement. Through these crises, they work tirelessly to keep their children healthy and safe. All mothers and children should have access to good nutrition and education in a safe community. That is why the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) supports over 80 million women and children in more than 120 countries and territories. From nutrition assistance to specialized training, we provide mothers with the food, resources and education necessary to care for their families. Here are three stories of mothers who protect, care for and feed their families with the help of our programs. ð Bikamsulton in Tajikistan In southeast Tajikistan, where Bikamsulton lives, warmer winters and less snowfall have made reliable water sources scarce in the mountainous region. Through a U.N. World Food Programme climate resiliency program, Bikamsulton community's drinking water supply system was rehabilitated. This system not only ensures access to clean water for drinking but also for irrigating crops. Now, despite the impacts and uncertainties of the climate crisis, Bikamsulton can anticipate a successful harvest. [A family of three generations in Tajikistan.](
"This water is used not only by me but also by my children. I think our life will improve, it will be much better than in the past. We don't have to think about where to get water from for preparing food and crops." ð Fatuma Hirsi in Ethiopia In Ethiopia, Fatuma Hirsi receives cash assistance from the U.N. World Food Programme as part of its flood response. As a mother of 10, she plans to use the cash assistance to purchase food for her children. [A woman in Ethiopia with WFP cash assistance.](
"I have never had such support before, this means a lot to me and my family since the flood happened in my area. Life was so difficult. Now I can buy food for my children with this money. I would like to send my heartfelt gratitude to the donors and WFP." ð Nyanyuot Gatmai in South Sudan Due to conflict in the region, Nyanyuot Gatmai lives in a camp for internally displaced persons in Bentiu, South Sudan. Her daughter, Nyalingah Gai, became sick from not getting enough breastmilk. She brought Nyalingah Gai to the camp's Primary Healthcare Center where the U.N. World Food Programme provided her daughter with ready-to-use foods specially designed to treat malnutrition. Thanks to this food assistance, Nyanyuot Gatmai can see her daughter's health improving. "As a mother, it's a joy to have a child but it's also tough to see your child like that. I see my baby feeling better, she looks alive, thanks to the food we're receiving." ð This Mother's Day, we want to thank the mothers and caregivers who work around the clock to give the world's youth a healthy childhood.
