Voters head to the polls for the Granite State primary; Sudan's former president will stand trial for genocide. Tonight's Sentences was written by Cameron Peters. TOP NEWS With 2020 Democratic race in flux, New Hampshire goes to the polls Joseph Prezioso/AFP via Getty Images - New Hampshire, the second state to weigh in on the Democratic presidential primary race, will vote on Tuesday. Polls close at either 7 or 8 pm ET across the state. Results should roll in later Tuesday night, with Iowa-like malfunctions not expected. [[NPR / Domenico Montanaro](] - The stakes are higher than ever in New Hampshire following last week’s disastrous Iowa caucuses: It could be a make-or-break race for some of the 11 candidates still in the race, and whoever wins can expect a substantial polling bounce. [[Vox / Ella Nilsen](] - Former Vice President Joe Biden, however, has all but written the state off. Biden admitted that he would “probably take a hit” in the primary, and polling suggests that he could be looking at a fourth- or fifth-place finish. [[NYT / Katie Glueck and Thomas Kaplan](] - Biden’s national polling has also been in freefall since a disappointing fourth-place finish in Iowa. A Monmouth University poll found that the onetime national frontrunner’s support fell by 14 points since January, landing him in second behind Sen. Bernie Sanders. [[Monmouth](] - Meanwhile, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, riding high after a string of positive polls over the weekend, is looking for a strong finish in the Granite State to jump-start her candidacy as the race heads to Nevada and South Carolina. [[Politico / David Siders](] - The odds-on favorite for a win in Tuesday’s primary is Sanders, who won the state in the 2016 Democratic primary. Sanders is leading in the polls and will be hoping for high turnout in New Hampshire. [[Washington Post / Jacqueline Alemany](] - Calls to change Iowa and New Hampshire's first in the nation status continue, but at least New Hampshire has none of the eccentricities of the Iowa caucuses. The candidate with the most votes will win the state, and delegates are allocated proportional to vote share. To claim any national delegates, however, candidates must win at least 15 percent of the vote. [[NBC / Mark Murray and Carrie Dann](] - A few very small New Hampshire towns vote far earlier than the rest of the state, starting at midnight Tuesday. Needless to say, the results don't tell us much. Former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir will stand trial before the ICC - It was once an unthinkable development: Omar al-Bashir, the former president of Sudan who was ousted in April last year, will be handed over to the International Criminal Court. Al-Bashir has been charged with multiple counts of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. [[AP / Samy Madgy](] - In a conflict in the early 2000s in the Sudanese region of Darfur, the government under al-Bashir used indiscriminate aerial bombings and militias known as the Janjaweed, who have been accused of mass killings and rapes. As many as 300,000 people were killed and 2.7 million were forced to flee. [[AP / Samy Madgy](] - The ICC has previously issued multiple arrest warrants for al-Bashir. As a powerful autocrat, however, he remained in power until 2019, and Sudan previously refused to extradite him after he was deposed. [[CNN / Nima Elbagir, Tamara Qiblawi and Mostafa Salem](] - At least two other members of Bashir’s regime will be turned over to the ICC along with him as part of an agreement between the Sudanese government and rebel groups based in Darfur. [[The Independent / Bel Trew](] - Al Jazeera reports that al-Bashir’s delivery to the ICC was a “key demand” as peace talks with rebel groups continue. For now though, there’s no timetable in place for when al-Bashir will actually appear before the ICC.
