I had such a great time last week

It was such an honor to speak at the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA)’s first in-person, Carnival Kick-off event since the pandemic began last Thursday at King’s Theater. It was such an honor to speak at the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA)’s first in-person Carnival Kick-off event since the pandemic began last Thursday at King’s Theater. I cannot wait to share more info with you about what the Carnival 2022 experience in Brooklyn, NY will be like, but I can only echo what Ann-Marie Adamson, member of WIADCA’s Advisory Committee, shared in saying that this year's Carnival will be “the carnival you’ll never forget because we came out of COVID.” This is me with my mother, Una Clarke, repping the Island nation of Jamaica at the 2019 West Indian-American Day Parade I look forward to hitting the Parkway with the people of the 9th Congressional District, in person, for the first time in over two years. I look forward to celebrating the gifts and talents that the Caribbean diaspora has brought to New York City and beyond. CORRECTION: I’m extremely proud of my Jamaican heritage and representing all of my constituents that hail from the Caribbean region. It’s only fitting that, in a time filled with so much turmoil and uncertainty, we can look forward to the West Indian American Day Carnival to continue the tradition of bringing us all together as one united community. This is more than just a Parade. For the Caribbean-American community, the Carnival is a celebration of our pride in our Caribbean culture, Heritage, and contributions made to the building of our adopted Home, the Great USA! Today, The West Indian American Day Carnival is one of the largest carnival celebrations around the world, bringing up to 3 million people to Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, reveling in sights, sounds, and food of the Caribbean diaspora. Thank you to WIADCA for having me at this launch event and for their efforts to put together one of our city's greatest attractions that not only represent our community but encapsulate the joy we have to be together once again.
