I’m proud to have co-sponsored Rep. Jayapal’s Judicial Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act earl

I’m proud to have co-sponsored Rep. Jayapal’s Judicial Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act earlier this month, and I want to tell you why. This new bill would strengthen our nation’s judicial ethics laws, impose an enforceable code of conduct on the Supreme Court, and ban federal judges from owning individual stocks. Without basic ethics, our systems become corrupt. A founding principle of our nation is that we have a democratic system of checks and balances – it’s imperative that we can react and respond to the actions of other branches of government when they overreach or engage in quid-pro-quo politics. I want to make sure that everyone can have the utmost trust in the judicial system, and while we still have a long way to go to undo the racial biases we’ve seen in the justice system, requiring a code of ethics for justices to follow is a big step in the right direction. Policies like these may not be glamorous or appeal to culture-war discourse, but they’re just as important to our collective fight for justice. From big-picture issues like Medicare for All to details like the Black Maternal Health Momnibus, you can always count on me to tackle issues from every angle. That’s why I’m honored to fight for you in Congress, and why we need my voice in Washington as the only Black woman representing New York. [If you’re with me, consider chipping into my re-election campaign because I need your support to do the necessary outreach to new voters in our community.]( Yours, – Yvette D.
