On Monday, Kamala Harris made history by briefly assuming the powers of the presidency during President Biden’s dental surgery, becoming the “first woman president,” if only for a moment. While history was only made for about 75 minutes, It reminded me just how honored I am to have such a strong Black woman in the White House, despite many of her accomplishments being drowned out in the news cycle. She’s even helped advocate for the issues that are near and dear to my heart, like advocating for HBCUs (historically Black colleges and universities), championing maternal health, fighting for more women and diversity in STEM, pushing for criminal justice reform, and so much more. So while we could say “Madame President” for just a moment this week, we must continue fighting for gender and racial parity in positions of power. From the fight for abortion rights to voting rights, Black women are core to the fight for equity, and as the First Vice Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, I see it as my duty to help uplift my colleagues in a media environment that too often glazes over Black women. [If you agree and want to support this work, consider making a split donation between Milk River PAC, which supports Black women running for Congress, and my re-election campaign so I can continue this important work!]( [Support Black Women]( Thank you, Yvette D.
