The so-called Fiscal Commission Act has nothing to do with good governance. {NAME}, For the last

The so-called Fiscal Commission Act has nothing to do with good governance. {NAME},  For the last six weeks we’ve shared a number of updates about House Republicans’ plans to gut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Over 150,000 people signed on to our petition partnering with Social Security Works and other activists – including MANY Vortex supporters like you.  To everyone who took a stand to make our voices heard, thank you, because now it’s crunch time.  Republican Speaker Mike Johnson is pushing forward towards a floor vote on the GOP’s so-called Fiscal Commission Act – a bill that will designate a secret committee to dismantle our benefits behind closed doors.  That vote can happen anytime – even while a partial government shutdown looms over us.  While we wait to see which way this particular vote goes (you can guess how the four men currently occupying these seats for Arkansas will vote), there’s one thing we know for sure: Republicans will never stop trying to cut Social Security.  [Vortex is working to flip ALL FOUR of Arkansas’ congressional seats and elect bold Democrats who will fight to protect your hard-earned benefits. Can you pitch in $25 or more today to help us win in November?]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Express Donate: $25 >>   Â]( [Express Donate: $50 >>   Â]( [Express Donate: $100 >>  Â]( [Express Donate: $250 >>  Â]( [Express Donate: $500 >>  Â]( [Donate Other Amount: >> Â]( {NAME}, don’t let the name fool you. Republicans love to call their legislation things that sound good to hide nefarious intentions.  The Biden administration calls this bill a ‘Death Panel’ for Social Security – and that’s exactly what it is. [A graphic featuring a screenshot of the first page of HR 5779, the Republican House Resolution to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid under the guise of fiscal responsibility. The name of the bill is called The Fiscal Commission Act of 2023.]( What Republicans have called the Fiscal Commission Act and branded as legislation for “fiscal responsibility and reform” is nothing more than another round of tax breaks for the rich and powerful while slashing the benefits you and I have worked all our lives for.  If Johnson gets his special, secret commission through, they’ll have the power to meet completely out of sight from public accountability to decide whose benefits get cut – and by how much.  The simple fact is that a vote for this fiscal commission is a vote to cut Social Security and Medicare. End of story.  Watch this space, we’ll update as soon as we can.  More soon,  - Robb [Support Vortex today >>](      Vortex PAC is a new grassroots movement to transform Arkansas politics away from the far-right.
