This is a red alert. {NAME},  This week SCOTUS heard oral arguments in Idaho v. United States – the case involving Idaho’s extreme abortion ban and the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act.  Federal law says that hospitals that take Medicare funding are required to provide emergency, stabilizing medical care – including abortions, when needed.  Idaho says their state’s abortion ban supersedes federal law.  Extreme abortion bans like the ones we have in Arkansas and Idaho often have so-called “exceptions” for the life of the mother. The problem is, who gets to decide when a patient’s life is in danger.  There are two Dr. Joneses in my household – me, a rocket scientist, and my wife, an emergency medicine physician. Guess which one of us has any business deciding when a patient is in need of emergency medical care? (Hint: it’s not me.)  The same goes for Supreme Court justices, lawyers, governors – and members of Congress.  If SCOTUS strips EMTALA of its authority we are going to be in very dangerous territory. MAGA extremists like Sarah Huckabee Sanders could force doctors like my wife to withhold emergency medical care and put women’s lives at risk.  And even if the court DOES uphold EMTALA, Extremist Republicans in Congress (including two of our representatives from Arkansas) are currently pushing a bill that would impose a federal ban on abortion and make it impossible for women to even travel to a neighboring state.  We need representatives who will fight for reproductive rights and our right to emergency medical care – no matter what.  With your support, Vortex recruited four bold Democrats to run for Congress this year and FLIP all four seats representing our state. Now we need your help to get them elected so we can take back the House majority and restore Roe! Donate to Vortex today to help fund our volunteer training program so we can mobilize every Democratic voter we need this November.  Let’s go!  Dr. Chris Jones [Support Vortex PAC >>](      Vortex PAC is a new grassroots movement to transform Arkansas politics away from the far-right.
