A [fragile ceasefire]( has begun after the opposing sides in Sudan agreed to a three-day truce. There has been sporadic gunfire in the capital, Khartoum, despite the agreement, and both sides have accused the other of violating the truce. Western and Asian governments are using the temporary halt in fighting to [ramp up evacuations]( of their citizens from the country. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of a [biohazard risk]( after a laboratory was seized in the capital. Haiti
A [mob in Haiti has lynched]( about a dozen suspected gang members, beating and burning them to death with gasoline-soaked tires. The residents pulled the men from police custody at a traffic stop before killing them, according to police and witnesses. The vigilante violence highlights public anger over the control exerted by powerful criminal gangs that have taken over an [estimated 60% of the capital](, Port-au-Prince, since the July 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. As strikes and protests continue in France over pension reforms to the retirement age, Franceâs electricity workers are [threatening to literally pull the plug]( on the Cannes film festival, as well as Monaco Grand Prix F1 racing event and the French Open. The power cut threats came after a general meeting on Friday of the Members of the National Federation of Mines and Energy.
