Beijing has sanctioned Lockheed Martin and a unit of Raytheon Technologies over [arms sales to Taiwan](, banning them from imports and exports related to China. They are two of the largest American defense contractors. Washington has already barred the sales of weapons technology to China. The US announced a [$1.1 billion contract]( for Taiwan in September that included Harpoon anti-ship missiles and Sidewinder anti-air missiles. Israel
Israel has passed a law to [revoke the citizenship]( of Israeli Arabs who are convicted of âacts of terrorâ and who get financial aid from the Palestinian Authority (PA). The move could also see Palestinian residents of occupied East Jerusalem stripped of their residency rights. A large majority of MPs voted for the legislation, while critics have called the decision racist and a [violation of international law]( since it would render people stateless. Nigeria
Nigeriaâs President Muhammadu Buhari said on Thursday that the countryâs redesigned currency will bolster the upcoming presidential election, calling for an [end to protests]( over a cash shortage. China managed to use the internet to defuse national outrage over President Xi Jinpingâs strict COVID-19 policies without firing a single shot. --------------------------------------------------------------- Bright spot The [Turma da Paz de Madureira]( samba school in Rio de Janeiro is the city's first to be run by and for women only. Members of the school have been practicing for a performance with dancers and drummers ahead of Carnival, which kicks off on Friday and runs through Feb. 25.
