It’s the 10th extension and it’s part of President Nayib Bukele’s fight against criminal gangs that has led to the arrests of more than 61,000 people. The first state of emergency measures were imposed last March after dozens of people were killed during mass violence that the government blamed on armed groups. Supporters of Bukele say the move is protecting citizens and restoring order, but rights groups have been concerned over the [suspension of civil liberties]( and reports of arbitrary detentions. France-Algeria French President Emmanuel Macron said he will [not "ask forgiveness"]( from Algeria for French colonization, but added that he hopes to continue working toward reconciliation between the two countries. "The worst thing would be to decide: 'we apologize and each go our own way,’" Macron told Le Point magazine. Algeria gained its independence from France in 1962 after an eight-year war. As a presidential candidate in 2017, Macron called French colonization a “crime against humanity,” but [dialed down his statements]( after the election. Afghanistan A [suicide bombing outside the Foreign Ministry]( in the Afghan capital Kabul has killed as many as 20 people. The group ISIS-K claimed responsibility for the attack. Officials from the Taliban-led government said that the bomber had tried, but failed, to enter the building. And the Italian humanitarian agency Emergency NGO has said that it’s [received more than 40 injured people](, with casualty numbers continuing to rise.
