The strikes spanned from Lviv in the west to Kharkiv in the northeast, in an apparent retaliation for an explosion that damaged a key bridge to the Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed by Moscow in 2014. An external power line to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has since been repaired after being disconnected from the grid. Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a threat of reciprocal actions to further attacks on what he called Russian territory. The attacks have prompted aid groups, including the ICRC, to temporarily halt their work. Meanwhile, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that Belarus and Russia will soon be deploying a [joint military task force](. Venezuela At least 25 people have died in a central Venezuelan town from a [landslide caused by flooding]( and days of torrential rains. The heavy rainfall caused the five streams of the Las Tejerías river to overflow. Around 50 people still remain missing. Shelters are being set up for people who have lost their homes. More than 1,000 officials are assisting in [search and rescue operations]( after President Nicolás Maduro has ordered a “maximum deployment” in response to the emergency, and has declared three days of national mourning. Ireland The death toll has risen to 10 people from a [gas station explosion]( on Friday in a small village in northwestern Ireland — about 105 miles northwest of Belfast — as emergency workers found more bodies in piles of rubble. The blast, which was heard several miles away, also destroyed surrounding apartment buildings. Emergency crews from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland [came together to help]( in search efforts. A police superintendent has said that current information suggests the blast was a “tragic accident.” --------------------------------------------------------------- From The World [Georgia’s proxy war with Russia has linguistic ripple effects]( [Customers walk into the Dedaena Bar in Tbilisi past a QR code notice. But the influx is [exacerbating tensions]( along lines going back to Soviet times. Many of the Russians don’t speak Georgian, sparking a linguistic battle. But this year’s Mediterranean harvest was nearly wiped out by [unusually warm seas](, forcing restaurant owners to import their mussels from other countries. --------------------------------------------------------------- Bright spot A Kyiv resident saw the need to reconcile a yearning for fun amid an ongoing war. So, Dima Kyrpa co-founded Repair Together, a volunteer group that helps clean up damaged homes and villages, with a DJ set up amid the rubble, so that volunteers can dance and make new friends while they clear the debris. On a livestream, people could see volunteers repairing a brick wall with one hand while pumping their fists to the beat with the other. 🕺 [Listen to the story]( by The World's Bianca Hillier. 🎧 [Repair Together hosts a clean-up rave in Ivanivka, Chernihivska oblast.] Credit: Repair Together/YouTube In case you missed it on The World --------------------------------------------------------------- Don't forget to subscribe to The World's Latest Edition podcast using your favorite podcast player: [RadioPublic](, [Apple Podcasts](, [Stitcher](, [Soundcloud](, [RSS]( [The World logo]( [The World on Facebook]( [The World's Twitter account]( [Donate]( | [Forward to a friend]( | [Subscribe]( | [Edit your subscription]( | [Unsubscribe]( | [View in your browser]( Top of the World is written weekday mornings by the team at [The World](.
