Police used teargas, but were unable to hold back the crowds. Most of the demonstrators are supporters of powerful Iraqi cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, whose political bloc emerged as the [biggest parliamentary faction]( in last October’s election, though it still failed to secure a majority. Meanwhile, the establishment of a new government for Iraq remains in a deadlock. And protesters have said they’re against corruption and the current political process.
