Police have surrounded the home of former President Juan Orlando Hernández in the Honduran capital after a request by the US for his extradition on charges of being involved in a drug-trafficking ring. The US says that Hernández [took bribes from drug cartels]( and facilitated the safe passage of drugs through Honduras. He has also been named a "co-conspirator" in the trial of convicted drug trafficker Geovanny Fuentes RamÃrez, and accused of working with his brother, Tony Hernández, who was sentenced in the US last year to life in prison for drug trafficking. Juan Orlando Hernández has denied the charges. Authorities are trying to prevent Hernández from escaping while they [await an official arrest warrant](. Canada
Canadian police [cleared protesters]( near crossings at the US-Canada border after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau implemented the Emergencies Act in response to demonstrations against COVID-19 vaccine mandates. The Ambassador Bridge between the US and Canada, which was blocked for nearly a week by demonstrators, impacting trade between the two countries, reopened on Sunday. The leader of Ontario has announced that he plans to drop vaccine passport requirements on March 1 if the province's COVID-19 hospitalization rates continue to improve. Meanwhile, Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly resigned on Tuesday amid criticism of his department's inaction against the protests. The first [noise radars]( have been put in place to curb noise pollution in Paris. They are meant to measure the noise level of moving vehicles and identify their license plate numbers. If the equipment works accurately, French authorities will officially approve the use of the radars by the end of the year and start issuing [fines to motorists by early 2023](. Similar equipment was installed in Nice and Lyon, as well as the Ile-de-France region around Paris, last month.
