[] Category shortcuts don’t work
After installing the Office 365 update, users discover the category shortcuts either don’t work or apply the wrong category to the item.
Microsoft is aware of the issue and it is expected to be fixed in an update later this month. If waiting for the update is not workable, you can roll back to the previous build.
First, you need to turn off updates, otherwise the bad update will be reinstalled overnight. It is recommended that you create an appointment on your calendar to turn updates back on in about a month.
To install the older version, type cmd on the Start menu, right click on the Command Prompt, choose Run as Administrator. Copy then paste this line in the command prompt to go back to the Jan 14 2019 build. This will cause an update to start installing. It’s not necessary to reboot when it’s done installing. Make sure you have the path in double quotes.
"C:Program FilesCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedClickToRunofficec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.11126.20266
The full and correct file path is available at [Category shortcuts don’t work]( and works for either 32 or 64 bit click to run.
If you want to roll back to an older build, get older build numbers at [Release notes for Monthly Channel releases in 2019](
[] Windows 10 People
A user had a complaint: "I installed Outlook 2019. There was a Coming Soon button that said enhanced user experience and I was stupid enough to click on it. I got infected with the Microsoft People virus and can’t uninstall it."
I have good news all around. The Coming Soon button didn’t add the “People virus” and it’s easy to hide.
The People icon on the Windows 10 Taskbar is pointless (IMHO) and is definitely annoying, but it’s not hard to hide. Right click on the taskbar and untick Show People. Done.
The People icon is linked to the Windows 10 People app, not Outlook, and is used by Windows Mail and Skype. Pin your favorite Windows People contacts to it to receive notifications, quickly search Windows 10 Mail for messages from the person and more. So yes, it has some value but not to Outlook users, as it doesn’t link to Outlook Contacts or Email.
To learn more about it, see [People app help](
[] Group By Views don’t work in To-Do List
Last month’s update contained a second bug, this one affecting To-Do List views. If you try to group by two fields, Outlook will tell you there is nothing to display. Only the To-Do List and To-Do bar are affected by this bug.
The workaround: Group by one field. You may be able to sort by the other field.
[] Can’t edit the Notes field in Outlook Contacts
Users have discovered another bug, this one in the January 14 build: you can’t edit the Notes field of some contacts.
The workaround: If the contacts are in an Outlook.com or Office 365 business mailbox, edit your contacts in Outlook on the web.
Unfortunately, affected users with IMAP or POP accounts can’t use this workaround but can try exporting to a CSV then importing the affected contacts.
