Instagram reminders, Microsoft keyword “boosters,” PPC macro-trends and more. [View in browser]( | [Share]() [Search Engine Land]() Mar 23, 2023 Mar 23, 2023 Good morning, Search Marketer, are you on board with Bard? Google has [introduced]() Bard, it’s generative AI “experiment,” and users have been busy comparing it to the new Bing and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. One significant difference: Bard does not frequently display citations and links to publishers and content creators, unlike Bing Chat. Naturally, [this is an issue]() with those who think it’s important for AI-generated content to be transparent about its sources. But Google recently [explained]() that citations will only be shown when Bard directly quotes larger portions of a webpage. Otherwise, Bard is intended to generate original content and does not replicate existing content at length. Google sees Bard as a complementary experience to Google Search, and users can easily move from Bard to explore information from across the web using the “Google It” button. While Bard is still in an experimental phase, Google plans to learn, iterate, and improve as it receives feedback from users, publishers and creators. Given the [lack of transparency, citations, bad SEO advice](), and generally low-quality outputs, Bard hardly seems like a Bing Chat competitor right now. It remains to be seen whether Google can address these concerns and improve Bard to make it a more popular tool among content creators.
