Hello from Angela
Thanks to everyone who took part in our recent newsletter surveyâall 1309 of you! I spent a lot of time going over the notes you left, and Iâm so grateful you took the time to fill it out. The survey has been amazing food for thought, and while Iâm still digesting it (and likely will be for some time), Iâm really excited to put some of your ideas into action! Not surprisingly, there were a lot of differing opinions (for each suggestion, there was often another saying the exact opposite, hah), but a few themes certainly jump out. The numerical trends in the multiple choice responses also help a lot with bringing the âbig pictureâ into focus. You can check out the charts below for a summary of those, and some highlighted comments and ideas, too.
Before we dig into the results, though, Iâd like to mention a couple quick updates. First: have you seen our new recipe videos? The Oh She Glows YouTube channel has officially been brought back from the dead (*cue me walking like a zombie across the screen*), and you can now check out snappy lilâ vids for my [Hunky Heartbeet Cabbage Soup]( [Chili Cheese Nachos]( [One Bowl Jumbo Chocolate Chunk Cookies]( [Ultimate Green Taco Wraps]( and [Fail-Proof Vegan Chocolate Cupcakes](. A big thanks to everyone who has subscribed to my [YouTube channel](. I often post the videos to YouTube first, before they make their way to social media and the blog, so youâll get the first peek as a subscriber.
[Butternut Squash Mac 'n Cheese](
Also, by popular demand, I updated the fan-favourite Butternut Squash Mac ân Cheese recipe and added it to both the app ([iOS]( and [blog](. The directions are streamlined, metric conversions are inserted, and Iâve added more flavour to the sauceâtry it out and see what you think! And donât worry, the original recipe is still in the blog post, too, in case youâre in the âleave my favourite OSG recipes alone, thankyouverymuchâ camp. ;) This week I added my new Peanut Butter Eggs recipe to the app, as well...just in time for Easter!
Okay, now letâs get to those survey results, shall we? Or, if recipes are more your jam, scroll down to the Featured Recipes section.

Survey Results
When we were putting together our subscriber survey, we knew we wanted to hear your thoughts and opinions on 3 main things: delivery, design, and content. My super-awesome, multitalented Content Editor, Shari, analysed your feedback and helped break down her findings into a quick summary for you all. (Sheâs also the one who edited this newsletterâ¦does it show? Hah.)
Delivery: We were most interested in what day(s) would be the best for send-out, and also how often youâd like to receive the newsletter. The top day was Friday, with a strong preference for receiving the newsletter weekly or bi-weekly (every 2 weeks). If youâre interested, you can see the full deets in Figures 1 and 2 below. (Thatâs right, this newsletter has figures...so official! *slowly claps*)
Fig. 1: "On what day of the week would you be most inclined to read the newsletter?"
(select up to 2)
[Bar graph showing day preference vs. number of votes.]
Fig. 2: "How frequently would you like to receive the newsletter?"
[Pie chart showing respondents' preferences for newsletter frequency (%).]
Design: We asked survey participants to rate, on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 = poor; 5 = excellent), both the length and overall design of the newsletter. In each case, approximately 85% of respondents selected a rating of either 4 or 5. Looks like weâre on the right track! (To those of you who noticed a glitch in this part of the survey: Our bad! Thank you so much for letting us know about it so we could get it fixed as quickly as possible and take it into consideration when interpreting our results. #surveyfail)
Content: Above all, we wanted to know what kind of content youâd like to see more of in the future. Just over half of our survey takers identified the Featured Recipes section as their favourite part of In the Glow currently. There was also a clear preference shown for seeing âmenu plans/ideasâ and âcooking tips & tricksâ added to the newsletter.
Fig. 3: "What is your favourite part of the In the Glow newsletter?"
[Pie chart showing respondents' votes for their favourite part of In the Glow (%).]
Fig. 4: "What sort of content would you like to see more of?" (select up to 3)
[Bar graph showing respondents' votes for future content preferences. (# of votes vs. type of content)]
In our open-answer questions, subscribers offered a lot of other thoughtful content suggestions that we plan to keep in mind, as well. These include requests for more âlifestyleâ content, kid-friendly features, peeks behind the scenes, and ingredient spotlights.
âI would love to see sneak peeks into your home, especially a tour of your office, your wellness routines, workout tips, skin care, self care, thoughts on blogging, etc. etc.â
âProvide added valueâanything that helps a subscriber feel like subscribing gets them something special that no one else can get.â
âBeing a new subscriber, I really enjoy both the length and level of detail of these emails. I read them while I delete emails from other such lists because when it comes in the content is so rich and thoughtful. I know it takes time to put these together, so don't hurry these if it means that they might lose their depth.â
âI just really like it for the recipes. I don't really read anything else. I get so many emails and newsletters. It is very content heavy. I would...just tease the story with a headline and a pic, then a link. This way you can also track what people are reading and what they are not. I love your recipes!!â
âMore information about how the different ingredients work in a recipe (which are the binding agents, how the chemistry works, etc.).â
â...Don't lose yourself and the recipes as the main product and trust yourself. Too much collaboration, commercialization and advice can really create noise for something that had already had magic. Keep it Angela and great recipes!â
âWays recipes have been used by others. Changes or substitutions for the more expensive or harder-to-find items.â
Thanks again for all your feedback. Weâre excited to get brainstorming!!
