What if Disney did all the work for you? What if you visited a different city each day but you only had to unpack once? Would you go? I asked myself those questions and the answer was easy: Book an Adventures by Disney Rhine River Cruise! [Read my trip report by clicking here](. I bought a couple of guidebooks before my family embarked on our Rhine River voyage, but I barely read them. Disney sent literature that detailed what we needed to know before leaving home. When we landed a day early in Basel, Switzerland, a driver was waiting to transport us to our luxurious hotel. To avoid jet lag, we took it easy and spent our first day in Europe browsing at an outdoor antique market followed by a long, leisurely lunch. We went to bed early because tomorrow, we would embark on our cruise along the historic Rhine River! [The next day, we boarded AmaWaterways’ brand new ship, the AmaKristina]( and met with a Disney Adventure Guide to set up our shore excursions for each stop along the way. (Tip – get onboard early so you can be one of the first people to arrange your excursions as they can fill up.) After dinner, there was a welcome reception where we met our fellow adventurers, Captain and crew and our eight Disney Adventure Guides. We were happy and excited to call the beautiful AmaKristina home for the next week. [We woke up in Strasbourg, France]( and spent the day in Germany at an outdoor toboggan run, and an open air farm museum where we had Weiner Schnitzel for lunch and Black Forest Cake for dessert. In the evening, we went into Strasbourg for a private concert on an antique organ on which Wolfgang Amadeus once played. The ship docked overnight in Strasbourg and [we toured this beautiful city via a canal boat](. It reminded us of Belle’s hometown in Beauty and the Beast. You expect to see Belle with her nose in a book as she walks along a cobblestone street. After lunch onboard the AmaKristina, we learned how to make colorful macarons from the ship’s chef. Delicious! [Our next morning was spent exploring the ruins of the Heidelberg Castle in Mannheim, Germany](. It’s not hard to imagine royal life in this impressive structure hundreds of years ago. We had some free time to walk around Mannheim and immerse ourselves in the culture of this German town along the Rhine. In the evening, we were treated to a local delicacy called spaghetti ice cream. (Think ice cream extruded to make “spaghetti” with strawberry sauce and shaved coconut.) [Rudesheim, Germany was our next stop along the Rhine](. We were delighted to visit Siegfried’s Musical Cabinet Museum, a collection of odd and magical antique musical creations. Afterwards, we took a gondola ride high above the vineyards to the Niederwald Monument. Hungry after our busy morning, we had lunch at an authentic German Biergarten. Energized after our hearty meal, we explored the quaint architecture along the narrow streets of Rudesheim. Back onboard the AmaKristina, we were excited to sail through the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO protected stretch of German countryside that is home to no less than 30 castles or castle ruins. Watching the sun set behind the green hillsides dotted with fairytale castles as you sail along the Rhine River is a breathtaking experience. [Next, we docked in Cologne, Germany, a 2,000 year old city filled with history, architecture, shopping museums and cafes](. It felt more like a bustling, modern metropolis than the other quaint medieval towns we visited along our Rhine River Cruise. A local guide led us on a walking tour of the city. We also visited the Cologne Cathedral and learned the story of this magnificent house of worship. [We arrived at our final destination, Amsterdam]( a beautiful city with over 60 miles of picturesque canals, 90 islands and 1,500 bridges. Our day included a visit to the Anne Frank House, the actual location where Anne and her family hid from the Nazis for two years. It was a moving experience to venture behind the bookshelf and up the narrow stairs to their secret hideaway. In the afternoon, we rode by motorcoach to a fishing village in the Dutch countryside. We were thrilled by the iconic sights of windmills and tulips surrounding us in the adorable enclave of Zaanse Schans. Our seven nights on the AmaKristina was a once-in-a-lifetime vacation that we will never forget. We met so many wonderful people and hope to see our Disney Adventure Guides again soon. Disney took care of everything and exceeded our expectations every step of the way. What is your dream vacation? Is it exploring the ancient ruins at Machu Picchu, walking along the Great Wall of China, sleeping in an authentic Irish castle, hearing the bells of Big Ben chime or traveling back in time in Pompeii? Or are your dreams a little closer to home? Imagine your family marveling at nature’s awe inspiring geyser, Old Faithful, hiking in the Grand Canyon, getting a peek at backstage magic in Disneyland or reliving American history in our nation’s capital, Washington DC. [Small World Vacations’ agents have firsthand experience with Adventures by Disney]( and they are happy to share their knowledge with you. There is no charge for our magical service. Book now to lock in these exclusive rates! The Hilton Anaheim is an expansive resort hotel with over 1500 rooms and suites, conveniently located an easy walking distance from the main entrance to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. This is a truly grand hotel with a “big city” feeling about it — actually, it is sort of a mini-city unto itself. Drop your car off with the valet parking attendants (or park in their attached garage) and stroll into the awe-inspiring multi-story atrium lobby with its dual escalators, open-plan cocktail lounge, huge ceramic mural (created by the same artist who fabricated the beautiful tile murals at the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World) and families and conventioneers bustling to and fro. It’s impressive! To find out more about the Hilton Anaheim [click here]( but return to this email to book this exclusive offer not available elsewhere! rooms at Hilton Anaheim include all the amenities you would expect from a top-tier Hilton hotel. Rooms are equipped with a king bed or two queen beds and include a desk, 32” flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, coffeemaker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and Peter Thomas Roth toiletries. King rooms sleep up to 2 adults and double queen rooms sleep up to 4. Wi-Fi is available for $12.95/day (but is FREE with this offer). Some rooms on the upper floors have excellent views of the theme parks — you can watch the Disneyland fireworks out your window. The on-site amenities at Hilton Anaheim are astonishing in their variety and quality. There are three rooftop garden sundecks, a heated outdoor pool and four spas, and a pool bar and snack bar (open seasonally). For the kids, there’s a very nice outdoor water play area with a small water slide, dump bucket and a play structure with water sprayers. The health club & spa includes an indoor pool, spa, group exercise classes, cardiovascular and weight machines, sauna, steam, tanning, facials and massage — plus an indoor basketball court! There is a daily fee of $14 if you want to use the health club facilities. Those who like to dine well will be especially happy with the Hilton Anaheim’s broad selection of food options. The main restaurant, Mix, has a lovely breakfast buffet or a la carte breakfast, and table-service lunch and dinner. You can get a quick latte and muffin at the full-size Starbucks, and there’s also a food court with a Baja Fresh Express (tacos and burritos), Sbarro (pizza), Just Grillin’ (burgers & fries), and Submarina (sandwiches). Full room service is available from 6 am-midnight, and from May-September, the pool bar and grill has a great selection of sandwiches, salads and other fresh California cuisine. To get to and from the parks you can use the ART (Anaheim Resort Transportation) system for a small fee (about $3.50-$5 per person per day, depending on length of ticket). If you’re in a hurry, there are always cabs waiting out front, and it’s only about 3 minutes and $10 to Disneyland. Alternatively, it’s a simple 15-18 minute walk to the parks. If you’re bringing a car, you can self-park for $18 — or use valet parking for $24 per day. In our opinion, it’s well worth the extra $6 plus tip to use valet, which is much more convenient.
