It's been on everyone's mind because state and local governments are cracking down on Thanksgiving, either advising against it, limiting it, or outright banning it. Some places are limiting the number of attendees. Some are saying you only get 2 hours max. California has even recommended against "singing." And yet, people love Thanksgiving. They still want to celebrate it, and they probably still do plan on celebrating it. I'm one of them. Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. It's certainly the most purely Primal holiday of all—the food, the gratitude, the thanks given, the company, the love. There's no real fanfare like there is with Halloween or Christmas. No one's really putting out Thanksgiving decorations or hanging up Thanksgiving lights along their house. There aren't any Thanksgiving carols. It's just a big dinner party with all your favorite people, all your loved ones. Relatively simple and straightforward. I'm still having Thanksgiving. Now, we are taking precautions. No one's showing up with a fever. If someone has symptoms, they're staying home. We are eating outdoors. No one's piling up on the couch watching the game. If it's cold, we can light fires or bundle up. But we are still getting together. It's too important and precious to us as a family—and as I've written before, there is very little evidence that COVID is a real risk outdoors (I've looked and asked around and haven't seen any good evidence that it is; if you have any please let me know). That's me and my family. You have to do what feels right. You have to weigh the risks and benefits and go from there. You can wear masks, take tests beforehand, do everything outside. There are options. You can improve your risk profile. But you can also skip it and plan for when things clear up and everyone's more comfortable.
