The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, crisp acidity and impressive structure with a finish that is worthy of a classified growth. Wines like this do great credit to the Cru Bourgeois and to Bordeaux. Excellent. (NM)" (10/2016)

A superb value 2014 Bordeaux. Tons of red rose and red currant aromas and flavors. The Cabernet shines brightly here. Perfect for your Friday night Claret with a rack of lamb or even better prime ribs of beef. make sure to decant an hour or so. Finely structured and great to cellar a few years.

First off: you've gotta give this wine an hour in the decanter. The difference is night and day, even though we're talking about a bargain-priced Haut Medoc and not a heralded classified growth. Secondly, have this with a burger, or a steak, or something substantial. You do those two things and you're going to feel like you scored a heckuva deal with this 2014 Hanteillan, a sub-$15 score from a completely underrated vintage that continues to turn up deal, after deal, after deal. The shocking thing about the wine it's about 60% cabernet from prime property near St. Estephe. Most of the time you get merlot in the bargain priced Bordeaux realm, but in this case you're getting the big boy fruit. When's the last time you found a highly-scored $13.99 cabernet from Bordeaux?

The 2014 Chateau D'Hanteillan Haut Medoc is another fantastic value from the 2014 Bordeaux vintage. This is a stunning wine for a mere $13.99 a bottle. Beautiful aromas of black figs, licorice, menthol and notes of baker's chocolate rise from the glass while the palate is a lively blend of red fruits, spice and bitter chocolate. The tannins are firm and the racy acidity gives this wine excellent body and lift. The perfect everyday red Bordeaux that won't kill your pocketbook.

I cannot stress enough the incredible value I think this Cab is for the price it is listed at. It is a legit Cab Sauv with soft oak notes and rich fruit. The tannins are subtle, but the complexity is there, detailing the experienced winemaking, as this is a hard balance to hit. This Cab tastes as though it has aged for years as it holds the complexity I look for with the softness of long-lasting wine. This producer should be on your radar if it's not already.

93 points Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley) is a bold, absolutely delicious wine to drink now and over the next few years. Racy and explosive to the core, the 2014 boasts serious depth, with tons of up-front fruit and the layered radiance that is such a signature of top Anderson Valley Pinots. This is an impressive appellation-level Pinot that overdelivers, big time.I was deeply impressed with these wines from Knez. According to winemaker Anthony Filiberti, naturally occurring low yields in 2014, along with less juice per ton than recent vintages such as 2012 and 2013, combined to produce unusually rich wines. Filiberti adds that sugars were actually quite modest, but that long fermentations gave the wines their their intense, rich textures. Readers who want to know why the 2014 vintage is magical for Pinot Noir will want to check out these wines from Knez. (AG)" (02/2016)
K&L Notes: Some of you may remember the massive closeout deals we have done in the past like Havens and Thomas Coyne; well we're here to tell you we have another up our sleeve with Knez. The Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from Knez have long been staff favorites here at K&L since their first vintage back in 2009 and the wines have only gotten better since then. So why, you may ask, are the wines being closed out? The Knez family owned 3 of the top vineyards in Anderson Valley, Cerise, Demuth and Knez Estate, and in late 2016 Kosta Browne bought the vineyards from the Knez family. Soon after the family decided that they wanted to get out of the wine game and have come to us to help them sell some of their remaining inventory. This has led us to truly incredible deals on a set of 2014 Anderson Valley Pinot Noirs from sites that will soon be unaffordable, impossible to get monopoles for Kosta Browne. I would highly recommend that you do not miss the incredible values that these wines offer. (Bryan Brick, K&L)

The keystone wine for Knez has long been their straight Anderson Valley bottling, however it is about as far from a basic bottling as possible. All the fruit comes from their three estate vineyards, Cerise, Demuth and Knez Estate and the same levels of attention and detail are put into this wine as the single vineyard offerings. 2014, touted as unusually rich by the winery, is just a killer vintage that shows off power and structure, making these wines a bit more masculine than long time fans would expect. As this wine airs out there are intense aromas of whole blueberry, kirschwasser, and dried apricots with hints of cola and wild berry candy. Entering with a lot of savor/umami tones this driving wine shocks with its complexity and focus. Add freshly fruited notes of wild blackberry, pastilles, airy blueberry meringue and white sage and this becomes something truly special. Needless to say there is very little at the $20 price point in the world of Pinot Noir that can hold a candle to this bottling.
[2015 Lucien Crochet "Croix du Roy" Sancerre]( ($26.99)
The Crochet domaine evolved through the marriage of the Crochet and Picard families, with the latter family having commenced its vineyard holdings in the Sancerre district as early as 1765. It was the great-grandfather of Lucien Crochet who first installed that part of the family in the region and it was in 1934 that the first bottling of wines occurred at the domaine. The domaine now is under the direction of Lucien Crochet and his son, Gilles. Much of the Crochet holdings are located in the fabled vineyards of the Clos du Chene Marchand and Clos du Roy. The Croix du Roy is the most full-bodied wine of Crochet's three primary Sancerre bottlings. Harvest is done manually and the grapes are crushed in a pneumatic press. Juice is racked off the heavy lees 18 to 24 hours after crushing; fermentation proceeds under controlled conditions at low temperatures. The wines remain on the lees in stainless steel until March of the following year. The wines are lightly fined and filtered and bottled just prior to the next year's harvest.

Cerise Vineyard has always been the jewel in the cap of Knez. Long sought after by wineries like Copain, Littorai, Siduri and Saintsbury this site has been one of the top producing sites in the Anderson Valley since the early 2000s. So much so that the Pinot Noir producer at the top of the food chain right now, Kosta Browne, just bought the site for untold millions of dollars. The 2014 Cerise bottling shows off all of this pedigree and intensity with concentrated purple flower, subtle oak, mulberry and sous bois aromatics. That heady combination is a harbinger of quality to come with a dense, dark forest-y nature along with porcini mushroom, snappy plum, spicy licorice and hints of sassafras and rhubarb pie. Slightly compact now in its youth this unravels nicely with a decant now and will happily stock your cellar for 5-10+ years to come.

The super-extracted, dense style won't appeal to all readers who enjoy Anderson Valley Pinots, but somehow all the elements seem to fall into place. Dark red and purplish hued fruits, smoke, licorice and sweet spices flow through the explosive, huge finish. The Reserve is not at all subtle, but it is nicely done, in its style.I was deeply impressed with these wines from Knez. The least known of these three massive closeouts from Knez is the Knez Estate Reserve bottling, but that doesnt mean that you shouldnt take special notice of this beauty. From the younger estate site this wine charms with outright ripeness and crowd pleasing texture. Easily showing the most oak of the set, this has a powerful nose of smoky meats, hoisin sauce, Chinese five spice and cloves. The biggest of the bunch this wine fills the mouth with fun blue fruits, sunny, fresh berry intensity and lacings of fresh green herbs like lemon thyme and flowering rosemary. This considerable wine is fully fanned out and accessible with a coating texture and solid heft. Fans of larger pinots should take note here.

The nose of this wine is subtle, sophisticated and understated claretyes claret; its a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot! One notices the refined character of the nose; the aromatics are Cabernet dominant with cassis, herb and earth drifting from the glass. However it is on the palate the one sees the exquisite winemaking skill here, not a piece out of place, long, polished; medium to full-bodied and in its current stage of evolution the wine shows more earth, leather and herb characters. This is Sassicaias second wine and you really see the superb lineage, viticultural care and pedigree, when the wine hits your tongue its palate presence is really evident, it is regal, long elegant and subtly austere. Perfect for you New York steak off the grill or with some aged cheese.

Out of our trio of $34.99 offerings I can't decide which I like more between the Vosne Romanee and Nuits St. Georges. The Nuits St Georges true to form has a bit more structure and rusticity, but with that comes more complexity and age-worthiness. Red fruits and spice dominate from start to finish here with great energy and dusty tannins. An absolute delight this is a fabulous entry-level offering.

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "If Viña Ardanza seems to be going fast, the Gran Reserva 904 is even faster and we're now on the 2007 Gran Reserva 904. This wants to be the classic Gran Reserva--polished, silky and elegant, with aging potential. It is a blend of Tempranillo with 10% Mazuelo aged for four years in well-seasoned American oak barrels, with eight manual rackings. I found that the freshness of the vintage and its relatively young age gave the wine a youngish character that I loved, combining developed notes of meat, spices, leather and balsam with almost cherry-like aromas. The palate feels balanced and elegant, with fine-grained and fully resolved tannins and great acidity. This vintage of 904 surprised me!" (08/2016)
K&L Notes: Many folks are very much aware of the La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" bottling. In contrast to the Ardanza, the "904" contains Tempranillo and Graciano (no Garnacha) and is every bit as traditional. It sees aging in used American oak barrels for 48 months, racking twice a year, and then further aging in bottle. The wine always has a sumptuous, velvety texture, with more bass notes in place of Ardanza's higher toned, red-fruited profile, and a lovely, meaty savor to the wine. 94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Ott's 2015 Feuersbrunner Rosenberg 1ÃTW Grüner Veltliner is a selection only from the oldest, 60-years-old vines, whereas in former vintages 45+-year-old vines were included. The 2015 opens with a fascinatingly clear, floral and herbal bouquet of great precision and individuality. With white-fruit aromas, but mainly mineral flavors, this is one of the greatest Veltliner bouquets I have ever sniffed. On the palate the wine is bone-dry, knife-sharp precise, elegant, finesse-full and rich in a reduced way. Less than 1 grams of residual sugar. Rich and juicy, but extremely sharp and mineral, with a great verve and livliness and a very long and salty finish. This is Ott's quintessence of Grüner Veltliner, and if I say Ott I am speaking of Mister Veltliner. A benchmark not only in the Wagram and a strong proof for the thesis that Wagram's loess soils do not necessarily give rich and creamy textured wines of great opulence. This Rosenberg is the wine to challenge the 2015s from Prager, Wachau."
94-95 points Vinous: "Ripe strawberry and pear mingle with snap pea and cucumber for a mouthwatering aromatic display and a palate performance at once texturally rich and crunchy, sumptuous yet tinglingly fresh-fruited. The superbly sustained finish, at once soothing and stimulating, is transparent to a dynamic, kaleidoscopic interchange of luscious fruit and zesty fresh lemon with piquant pear seed, tangy pear skin, crisp snap pea, crystalline stone, and mouthwatering mineral salts. As with other Ott successes of this vintage, there is a mysterious depth of carnal and maritime savor, here conjuring one of those Burgundian Pinot Noirs about which one might ask, "How can these flavors be coming from grapes?" Most of the vines in what has become Ott's signature cru celebrated their 60th birthday this vintage, and they managed to escape the May hail that rampaged all around."

It is for this reason their list prices are among Burgundy's elite. Aurélien Verdet isn't a household name, but a parcel like this might just put him there, and quickly. Certified Biodynamic, Verdet crafts complex and no-compromise wines from some of Côte-de-Nuits' finest sites. These are must-try wines for Burg enthusiasts and those looking to discover the region's true gems. Also planted in the 1960s, this vineyard is just below Les Damodes. It is distinctive for its ethereal, violet perfume on the nose and finish. The palate is elegant, yet dense. (Alex Pross, K&L Burgundy buyer)

Wooooooooooooooooooooow...........good God. This the most legit Burgundy close out we've ever offered. This is rich, lush, complex, mouth-filling, delicious, mind-boggling good red Burgundy and when you look at what most producers charge for fruit from "Les Damodes," you'll begin to understand the scope of this deal. This is like getting an apartment in North Beach for $500K. And you can drink it now!

Shortly after opening this wine and allowing it to breathe I thought to myself-not showing a lot...then I came back to it a while later and was blown away. The complexity of this wine is quite impressive, tons of spice, white chocolate and fresh red berry notes are present on the multi-dimensional nose. The palate slowly unfurls to reveal complex notes of red cherry, spice, mineral and earth notes. The dusty tannins present themselves as all the components come together on the long, long finish. A cellar-worthy offering that will handsomely reward those with a bit of patience.

94 points Wine Spectator: "(List price: $140) Black cherry and black currant fruit holds court here, along with earth and spice notes. Tightly packed and intense, with a keen sense of balance and a long, fruit-stained finish. Best from 2022 through 2042. 50 cases imported." (05/2017)

Planted in the 1960s, this premier cru lies at the top of the slope north of Nuits- Saint Georges, just before Vosne Romanée. Premier cru "Les Damondes" for $60, yes please!! This was my favorite of the Verdet line-up, it has power and potential for age, but also drinks great now with some decanting. This wine unveiled itself with elegance and finesse. It becomes aromatic with notes of flowers and berry fruit and a palate of cherry and a hint of herbs and game. It's hard to find value wines in Burgundy, but this is it, a true value!

This wine is loaded with oodles of fruit. Very open-knit with soft tannins and layer-upon-layer of perfectly ripe red fruit with subtle spice and oak notes this is a deceptively approachable Nuits St Georges. Ideal for the Burgundian enthusiast looking for a drink now 1er Cru this amazing offering is a steal at 1/2 its regular pricing.

From northern section of Nuits St Georges that is known for encompassing NSGs sturdy character combined with Vosnes elegance and finesse. Serious 1er Cru quality here with black cherry, kirsch, game, pepper, lavender, and minerals. Medium bodied with a little bit of grip so long decant or you could cellar mid-term for fascinating development. Very cerebral. Dont Miss!
[2012 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Laurence" Châteauneuf-du-Pape]( ($99.99)
96 points Wine Spectator: "A throwback style and proud of it, with warm chestnut and bay leaf notes taking the lead, followed quickly by worn leather and smoldering tobacco accents. The core of dark currant, warmed cherry and mulled blackberry lies in reserve for now, while the finish lets singed iron and brick dust details hold sway. Just wait for everything to pull together in the cellar. Best from 2020 through 2032. (JM)" (03/2017)
[2005 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien]( [2005 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien]( ($99.99)
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This tastes of great Cabernet Sauvignon, with its black currant, cedar and herbs and fresh, juicy acidity. It is as fresh as it is rich, but it has a structure of dense tannins that balances the wine. This is one of the best wines from Gruaud-Larose for several years. (RV)" (06/2008)
K&L Notes: From barrel: Toasty oak aromas and flavors. Some tobacco. Good mouthfeel and texture. A bit tannic at the back. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Bordeaux Buyer) 91 points Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "The Château Gruaud Larose 2005 has an open bouquet: quite savoury in style with touches of bacon fat and cured meat infusing the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly angular tannin. The acidity is well judged although it still needs to develop a little cohesion towards the finish. It seems to have just lost a little length since I last tasted it â obviously still going through its awkward âteenagerâ moment. I am sure it will come down from its bedroom at some point and those sage and thyme notes on the aftertaste continue to appeal." (02/2015)
[Ardbeg "Kelpie" Islay Single Malt Whisky (750ml) (Limit 2)]( ($109.99)
A limited Ardbeg release named for the mythical shape shifting spirit of the deep and aged in virgin oak casks from the republic of Adygea, this experimental edition of Ardbeg gives a nod to the influence of the Black Sea.
[2012 Domaine Tortochot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru]( [2012 Domaine Tortochot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru]( ($109.99)
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from 41-year-old vines. It has an attractive, open-knit bouquet that veers toward a more terroir-driven profile than a more typical fruit-driven one: tart cherries rapidly given way to woodland, autumnal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and poise. While it does not quite possess the persistency of the Mazis-Chambertin, it is nicely focused and poised. If seeking a more understated Charmes-Chambertin and you are unable to forage one from Denis Bachelet (join the club), then do consider this as an alternative. (NM)" (02/2014)
[2012 Caymus "40th Anniversary" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1L)]( [2012 Caymus "40th Anniversary" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1L)]( ($229.99)
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "They appear to be immune to some of winedoms less than intelligent trends and fads that we see from time to time, and the result is a spectacular 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary offering. Its dense purple/black color is followed by copious quantities of crème de cassis and blackberry fruit, silky tannins, a voluptuous texture and stunning purity as well as length. This full-bodied effort is a fabulous example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a tribute to this amazing family. It is so good now, why wait? However, Im sure that like most vintages of Caymus, it will last for 20-25 years. Amazing! (RP)" (10/2014)
91 points Wine Spectator: "Lavishly oaked, with creamy mocha, vanilla, cedar and anise notes at the edge of a rich core of dark berry, plum and black licorice flavors. Tight, focused and persistent, showing a seductive character. (JL)" (11/2014)
K&L Notes: With a special bottle and label for their 40th Anniversary Cabernet Sauvignon, Caymus is ready to celebrate this epic 2012 vintage. Charlie and Lorna Wagner with their son Chuck began this now iconic Napa Valley winery in 1972. Chuck is now the owner and winemaker, and has this to offer: "This wine exemplifies our style of Cabernet out of a great vintage: deep color, rich, concentrated and balanced. 2012 celebrates 40 years of producing our pride and joy, Caymus Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon."
[2015 Domaine Anne Gros Echézeaux Grand Cru (Pre-Arrival)]( ($229.99)
91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which comes from the lieu-dit of Les Loachausses, has a very expressive bouquet with vibrant red and black fruit, overtly classic in style, perhaps more reserved than previous vintages that I have tasted, yet conveying the terroir in convincing fashion. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, cedar, touches of white pepper with fine structure and tension all the way through to the finish. It needed time to open so I would afford this 3-4 years in bottle. (NM)" (12/2016)
89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Moderate wood sets off the markedly spicy aromas of liqueur-like dark pinot fruit, violet and lilac. There is impressive volume to the full-bodied but highly seductive flavors that coat the palate on the toasty and somewhat warm finale. This should also drink well on the younger side if desired." (01/2017)
[Suntory Hakushu 18 Year Single Malt Whisky (750ml)]( [Suntory Hakushu 18 Year Single Malt Whisky (750ml)]( ($249.99)
90 points Whisky Advocate: "Unlike their colleagues in Scotland, Japanese distillers do not exchange stock for their blending requirements. This means that each distillery is set up to produce a wide range of styles. Hakushu uses four different types of malt (unpeated to heavy) run through four pairs of differently-shaped stills. Each single malt is a different blend of these bases. While still herbal, this example shows more sherried notes along with sour orange zest, tropical fruit, and some smoke. Complex. (DB)" (04/2012)
K&L Notes: From Master of Malt: "A fantastic 18 year old Japanese whisky from the Hakushu distillery, a malty, fruity whisky of real quality. Nose: Orange, pear and a dry smokiness. Fruit salad. Palate: Patisserie sweet, baked goods and baked goodness! Finish: Long and fruity with Manuka honey with subtle smokiness. Overall: A fantastic Japanese whisky that hits all the right notes."
[2015 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (Pre-Arrival)]( ($299.99)
93-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Reduction. Here there is a similar mouth feel to the Bonnes Mares with a bit more muscle in evidence on the overtly powerful yet velvety and imposingly-scaled flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the slightly firmer and just as impressively persistent finale. This youthfully austere and ultra-serious effort is one of those "buy and forget you own it" wines as it's going to be very long-lived." (04/2017)
93-95 points Vinous: "(two of the four barrels were new; the production here was just 25 hectoliters per hectare, according to Landanger): Bright ruby. Sexy perfume of black raspberry, minerals, brown spices, licorice pastille and underbrush. Plush, sweet and smooth, offering superb concentration, energy and balance. Utterly seamless wine with terrific inner-mouth floral lift. The wine's strong fruit blows past the firm, late-arriving tannins on the juicy, gripping, very long finish." (01/2017)
91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru was showing just a tiny reduction on the nose, but there is clearly plenty of black fruit tucked underneath, later touches of kirsch, violet and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well-judged acidity. It tightens up towards the structured, more Clos Saint-Denis-inspired finish, yet the length and persistence in the mouth is impressive. I would just like more nervosité to come through and perhaps even a touch more charm. Otherwise this is a commendable Clos de la Roche that should offer a couple decades of drinking pleasure." (12/2016)
[2015 Domaine Francois Lamarche La Grand Rue Grand Rue (Pre-Arrival)]( ($499.99)
94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 La Grande Rue Grand Cru, from the 1.65-hectare monopole, has a very fine bouquet, quite open and expressive with red cherry, bergamot, early grey and light earthy scents that unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition. There is superb tension on the entry and conspicuous salinity here. It is not a powerful La Grande Rue but in keeping with Nicole Lamarche's vision, pursues elegance and style. Yet the persistence is very long, so much so that I have written this entire tasting note and I can still feel my mouth tingling! This is superb." (12/2016)
93-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This perfumed beauty displays fireworks in a glass with its kaleidoscopic nose of super spicy, floral and cool red and dark berry nose. The middle weight flavors are less concentrated and powerful than those of the Grands Ech but markedly finer with a caressing and sophisticated mouth feel that carries over to the rich finish that once again tightens up noticeably on the impeccably well-balanced and strikingly persistent finish. While at least some patience will also be required this should be approachable sooner than the Clos de Vougeot and Grands Ech." (01/2017)
