The 2016 Foundation Cellars MMXVI comes from two prolific sites on Red Mountain—Shaw Vineyard and Quintessence Vineyard. Shaw is a super-rocky site with a 30-degree slope and west-southwest exposure that produces dense, structured wines. Quintessence Vineyard sits at a 1,000-foot elevation and faces due south. The younger vines here (planted in 2010) give explosive aromatics and exuberate fruit to the blend. The resulting wine is a full-bodied, dark-fruited, powerful Cab that will knock your socks off for the price.
