Complex, ageworthy, and limited productions bottlings at unbelievable prices... Tuesday Jun 27th, 2017 [View in Browser]( Game-Changing Pricing on Elite-Level Red Burgs - Up to 50% Off --------------------------------------------------------------- Domaine Aurélien Verdet is an under-the-radar estate that turned heads at K&L after a recent tasting. The wines were unilaterally loved by our team (something that is a telling accomplishment in itself) as they are stunning, complete, site-specific wines that reveal why Burgundy is so revered in the world of fine wine. Unfortunately, they also had minuscule production, nearly vintage-best press, and an elite price-point to match. So when we learned that we'd be able to offer them at game-changing pricing that's over 50% off the original list price we knew we had a singular offer in the works that we'll be talking about for a long time to come. Check out the kind of company these wines found themselves in for the '14 vintage in Wine Spectator, alongside Grand Crus from Burgundy royalty: Not to mention the Village wines (Nuit-St-Georges and Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes) which rival many great 1er Crus in 2014 with not only big press but the adoration of our team here at K&L. Aurélien Verdet is a young phenom as he only recently took the reigns of his father's estate in 2005 and went on to add some remarkable sites from Vosne Romanée (Beaux Monts) and Nuits-St-Georges (Damodes and Boudots) in 2009. His passion and dedication for the finest in Burgundy quickly became apparent and his investment in the new and old holdings shows in volume with the 2014s. His wines are an utter joy to drink and they beautifully illustrate that Verdet is a true talent. Whether you are a passionate Burgundy collector or someone who looks for the best of Pinot Noir from anywhere, these Village and 1er Cru bottlings are an unrivaled value at these discounted prices. In the current market, Red Burgundy this good at these prices simply doesn't last on our shevles for long. What we have is destined to disappear in a flash - make sure to grab what you can now because it'll be a long time until we see an offer like this again. Spice and earth elements add complexity as this builds to a long, tangy aftertaste of fruit, spice and earth. Drink now through 2026. (BS)" (05/2017) K&L Notes: Aurélien sources his Nuits-Saint-Georges from the Pertuis Maréchaux vineyard, which lies on the Vosne-Romanée side of the Nuits -- a region renowned for its stylish, thoroughbred Pinot Noirs. The Pertuis Maréchaux vines are rooted in lighter limestone soils toward the top of the slope, resulting in a wine with an exceptionally elegant bouquet and smooth texture. (Alex Pross, K&L Burgundy buyer) Pross]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 26, 2017 Out of our trio of $34.99 offerings I can't decide which I like more between the Vosne Romanee and Nuits St. Georges. The Nuits St Georges true to form has a bit more structure and rusticity, but with that comes more complexity and age-worthiness. Red fruits and spice dominate from start to finish here with great energy and dusty tannins. An absolute delight this is a fabulous entry-level offering. Parres]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 It has the structure you expect from Nuits St. Georges, as well as the opulence and weight on the mid-palate that their Vosne Romanee delivers. This is a wine that deserves some time in your cellar and will reward you for your patience or a few hours of decanting and a fine meal. Bohorfoush]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 Nuits St. Georges muscle yet surprisingly fresh and forward. Complex nose of game, mineral, fresh red currants and cherry compote. Juicy finish and excellent length at this AC level. A solid choice and top value. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2014 Domaine Aurélien Verdet Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes (Elsewhere $70)]( [2014 Domaine Aurélien Verdet Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes (Elsewhere $70)]( ($34.99) 93 points Wine Spectator: "(List Price: $80) A hint of game in the aroma gives way to bright cherry and black currant fruit in this silky red. Toast and baking spice details add complexity as this sails through a long finish. Shows terrific balance and finesse. Best from 2019 through 2035. 135 cases imported." (05/2017) K&L Notes: The complexity of this Vosne-Romanée comes from four vineyard plots planted in the 1970s: Ormes, Colombière, Jacquelines, and Ravioles. The result is a representative Vosne cuvée with spicy and peppery notes and a character of over-ripe damson plum, all enveloped in a rich, velvety texture. (Alex Pross, K&L Burgundy buyer) Pross]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 26, 2017 I can't believe that I am drinking a Vosne Romanee of this quality for $35! My mind is blown...beautiful floral aromas as well as crushed red fruits deftly mingle with a gorgeous fruit-strewn palate of red cherries and spice notes. Incredible persistence and length, this beauty lingers so sweetly on the finish. Bravo! Gonzalez]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 25, 2017 Right now, this is the best buy in Burgundy bar none! Do yourself a favor and get on this early, because we won't have this in stock for long. Here you have a beautiful expression of 2014 Vosne Romanee with a fragrant, floral and spicy nose. On the palate there is bright cherry fruit kept lively with solid structure and nice length. This is super user friendly tonight, but will develop with age. Don't pass this one up! Rodriguez]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 Red cherries, dried flowers and dusty earth rush in on the nose. Cranberry, cherry tart, and slight hints of herb mingle nicely on the palate. Such a pleasant, approachable Pinot, with lots to offer young, that will likely age into something even more fantastic! I want some of this in about 5 years or so. Vosne Romanee at this price, is an offer you just can't refuse! Beckerley]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 This red Burgundy is practically impossible. Impossible to dislike, that is! I tasted this on Thursday, 22 June and was bowled over by the quality and just flat out enjoy ability of it. Wonderful, fairly lush, cherry fruit with hints of tobacco and red currant. Quite elegant in structure, with the old vine fruit adding lushness and body to the initial bright earthiness. I tasted it after it had been aired for about two hours, so give it a little time to open up. You will not be disappointed. Bohorfoush]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 Rich and elegant nose of red cherry and raspberry with spice and mineral. Velvet medium body with bright cherry and dusty earth notes. No edges with refreshing acidity driving the fine finish. Top value and very classy. Driscoll]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 I don't know what else to add here other than: buy everything you can afford. That's what I did. That's what my colleague Gary Westby did. This is top quality, old vine Vosne Romanee for the price of a standard Sonoma pinot. It's incredibly lush for 2014 and the fruit is dark, concentrated, and just waiting to be unlocked over the next decade in your wine locker. Wow, wow, wow..... Westby]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 I just bought a case of this after tasting it- and wish that I had the budget to buy much, much more. I would be writing a glowing recommendation for this Verdet at $70, but at this ridiculously low price, I am almost at a loss for words. Good deals abound in the wine world, but good deals on top class red Burgundy do not. This has the sexy, effusive perfume that makes Vosne Romanee famous, is fabulously elegant and textural in the mouth and is long as one could wish for in a village wine. Don't miss it. This sort of deal does not come along often. Bearden]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 22, 2017 This has all the Vosne Romanee elegance you expect but the old vines lend a deep, sappy quality to the ripe dark fruity mid-palate. There is wonderful weight, texture and length to this very approachable bargain. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2014 Domaine Aurélien Verdet Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Boudots" (Elsewhere $120)]( [2014 Domaine Aurélien Verdet Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Boudots" (Elsewhere $120)]( ($59.99) 94 points Wine Spectator: "This is fluid, with black cherry and violet flavors shaded by spice and mineral details. Shows depth and structure, though this firms up on the finish. Dusty tannins coat the gums. Best from 2022 through 2040. (BS)" (05/2017) K&L Notes: Also planted in the 1960s, this vineyard is just below Les Damodes. It is distinctive for its ethereal, violet perfume on the nose and finish. The palate is elegant, yet dense. (Alex Pross, K&L Burgundy buyer) Pross]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 26, 2017 Shortly after opening this wine and allowing it to breathe I thought to myself-not showing a lot...then I came back to it a while later and was blown away. The complexity of this wine is quite impressive, tons of spice, white chocolate and fresh red berry notes are present on the multi-dimensional nose. The palate slowly unfurls to reveal complex notes of red cherry, spice, mineral and earth notes. The dusty tannins present themselves as all the components come together on the long, long finish. A cellar-worthy offering that will handsomely reward those with a bit of patience. Gonzalez]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 25, 2017 Dark and delicious with power and elegance. This pinot packs a punch with uber freshness and purity of dark berry fruit with layers of spice and earth. Still, this is early in it's development and will be well worth the investment. A super smart buy for the patient. Super Recommended! Beckerley]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 I just sampled this fantastically structured Burgundy yesterday (22 June) and was extremely (and very pleasantly) surprised. I love Burgundy about as much as Champagne and am always more than a little happy to find a "newbie" that bowls me over. This is one of them. Brooding and tannic, with a firm structure of dark red (with some black) fruits. Nicely spicy, which adds complexity to the bigger fruit structure of this young beauty. I just loved the balance of fruit and tannin and spice that also comes with a bonus of a mineral driven finish. To drink now, decant, decant, decant. For you collectors, bury it in the cellar for a dozen or so years. Rodriguez]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 Intense wild berries, darkly expressive, with still plenty of fresh perfume like the Village wines have. If you want to try a 1er Cru, this has to be it!! You're going to be dragged into the gravity of this deep, dark, and brooding Pinot. It's magically bright with red fruits, yet darkly rich at the same time. Kind of an anomaly. There's no shortage of new things to smell and taste as you come back for more. The tannins have a lovely balance and a remarkable persistence. Age-worthy, but if you can't wait, air this out for several hours and sit back and watch the magic happen. Cheers! Driscoll]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 While I was very impressed with the village level Vosne Romanee from Verdet, the 1er cru Aux Boudots takes it up another notch (as a premier cru should!!). There's much, much more spice, nuance, notes of forest floor and cranberry, with more gusto on the finish. This is $100+ Burgundy, pure and simple. It's just going to cost you $59.99. Bohorfoush]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 From northern section of Nuits St. Georges that is known for encompassing NSGs sturdy character combined with Vosnes elegance and finesse. Aux Boudots is known as the finest 1er Cru in the northern section of NSG and is a continuation of the regal Vosne-Romanée 1er cru Les Malconsorts. Complex nose combining finesse and power. Deep notes of darker wild berries, violets, anise, cardamom, and damp leaves that stretches out over the palate. Brooding and compact. Long decant or lay down for its serious potential. Dont Miss! Westby]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 The Boudots is along with Suchots in Vosne Romanee, my favorite 1er Cru for red Burgundy. Unfortunately, it is no secret how good this filet next to Vosne Romanee Malconsorts is, and I cannot usually afford it. This Aurelien Verdet bottling is flat out one of the best deals in fine wine to come along since I have been at K&L... I bought half a case, and will have to drink beer instead of wine for more than a few nights to recoup my wine budget! This has the catnip like excitement of the best of red Burgundy, with the depth and power of the best Nuits St George as well as the classy elegance of top Vosne Romanee. I broke the piggy bank for this one- it is that good! Bearden]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 22, 2017 All three Nuit St. Georges bottlings are packed with tremendous raw material but the "Aux Boudots" appears to be the most coiled and capable of exploding with complexity. Decanting today gives you a wine that is already layered and delicious but really just hinting at its full potential. Jones]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 22, 2017 This wine is packed full of pleasure. It has elegant and expressive fruit and has a full body . Layered and complex with dry red fruit flavors balanced out with delicious acidity, the 2014 Verdet Aux Boudots shows Burgundy at its best. It will be best if it has been decanted (that is how we tasted it) and will go best with food. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2014 Domaine Aurélien Verdet Nuits St Georges Ier Cru "Les Damodes" (Elsewhere $120)]( [2014 Domaine Aurélien Verdet Nuits St Georges Ier Cru "Les Damodes" (Elsewhere $120)]( ($59.99) 94 points Wine Spectator: "(List price: $140) Black cherry and black currant fruit holds court here, along with earth and spice notes. Tightly packed and intense, with a keen sense of balance and a long, fruit-stained finish. Best from 2022 through 2042. 50 cases imported." (05/2017) K&L Notes: Planted in the 1960s, this premier cru lies at the top of the slope north of Nuits- Saint Georges, just before Vosne Romanée. The bouquet is redolent of plums and the wine has a complex, weighty structure.-Alex Porss K&L Wines Burgundy Buyer Pross]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 26, 2017 This wine is loaded with oodles of fruit. Very open-knit with soft tannins and layer-upon-layer of perfectly ripe red fruit with subtle spice and oak notes this is a deceptively approachable Nuits St Georges. Ideal for the Burgundian enthusiast looking for a drink now 1er Cru this amazing offering is a steal at 1/2 its regular pricing. Driscoll]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 Wooooooooooooooooooooow...........good God. This the most legit Burgundy close out we've ever offered. This is rich, lush, complex, mouth-filling, delicious, mind-boggling good red Burgundy and when you look at what most producers charge for fruit from "Les Damodes," you'll begin to understand the scope of this deal. This is like getting an apartment in North Beach for $500K. And you can drink it now! Bohorfoush]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 From northern section of Nuits St Georges that is known for encompassing NSGs sturdy character combined with Vosnes elegance and finesse. Serious 1er Cru quality here with black cherry, kirsch, game, pepper, lavender, and minerals. Medium bodied with a little bit of grip so long decant or you could cellar mid-term for fascinating development. Very cerebral. Dont Miss! --------------------------------------------------------------- [2014 Domaine Aurélien Verdet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Beaux Monts" (Previously $120)]( [2014 Domaine Aurélien Verdet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Beaux Monts" (Previously $120)]( ($64.99) 95 points Wine Spectator: "A stunning red, featuring deep aromas of black cherry, black currant and violet, backed by flavors of wild berry and exotic spice. Balanced, with ample structure for aging. The fine, spicy finish completes the profile. Best from 2021 through 2040. (BS)" (05/2017) K&L Notes: Les Beaux Monts is one of three Vosne-Romanée premier cru climats located within Flagey-Echézeaux, rather than in Vosne-Romanée itself. This Pinot Noir comes from vines planted in the 1970s and fully captures the personality of Les Beaux Monts. It has an enticing perfume in the aromas, with rich, full flavors and a backbone of good acidity. (Alex Pross, K&L Burgundy buyer) Pross]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 26, 2017 If you want a quintessential Vosne Romanee then look no further than the 2014 Verdet Vosne Romanee Les Beaux Monts. High-pitched red fruits and spice with an incredibly complex and layered palate of red fruits, spice, minerality and earth notes are lavishly sprinkled throughout. The intensity and energy here is admirable and this tastes like a $200+ Burgundy that can be all yours for a fraction of that price. Gonzalez]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 25, 2017 Here's a wine to wait for...an expressive beauty, layered with the purity of black and red fruits interwoven with spice and minerality. This shows the finesse of 2014 and though a bit wound up now is sure to blossom even more beautifully with time. Parres]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 This shows power, intensity and depth, toasty oak, sweet black fruits with ripe cherries flavors, terrior and tannins are well represented here and add to the wonderful length on the finish. This Les Beaumonts is a very attractive wine and a pleasure to find from this producer for us at K & L to share with you. Bohorfoush]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 23, 2017 Elegant nose with red berries and black cherry, asian spice, mineral, and dried porcini. Ripe yet fine and balanced with a panolopy of summer red berries and saline minerality on the very long finish. Silky tannins make this very pleasing but only hinting at its potential for mid-term cellaring. 1er Cru quality shines and a very serious step up. Dont miss! Bearden]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 22, 2017 This is deeper and heavier than the regular bottling of Vosne Romanee with slightly more obvious oak and much darker fruit. This is a serious wine from a great vineyard that I would probably hide away in my cellar for a few years. As delicious as this is there is now, the potential for greater things is very real. --------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on: Check Out Our Blog: [Twitter]( [Instagram]( [On the Trail (K&L Blog)]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [My Account]( | [Wine Clubs]( | [Events]( |[Gift Cards]( | [Accessories]( | [Shipping]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Missed an offer?
