[Krug at Sunset] --------------------------------------------------------------- One of the more impressive, winery-direct Napa library collections we've seen in a long time has just landed in stock, and anyone who puts a premium on structured, old-school, age-worthy Napa Cabernet should take a long look at the comprehensive range of wines available. The [Vellum library]( comes to us at incredible pricing, with vintages in multiple formats stretching back to 2007, highlighted by the [2012 Vellum Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (Previously $150)](. Purposely made in a Bordeaux-like style that harkens back to a bygone era in Napa's history, these are classically chiseled and constructed for the long haul. Domestic buyer Ryan Woodhouse draws the hybrid comparison of "part Corison, part Spring Mountain Vineyard" to describe the overall profile, and when we factor in many of Napa's greatest vintages of the 21st century, we're talking about a serious opportunity for savvy collectors. Few estates in Tuscany have been on such a roll lately as Fuligni, and the JS96 [2017 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino (Elsewhere $100)]( takes it up a notch in this vintage, as all fruit typically designated for the Riserva made its way into this wine in 2017. "Plenty of complexity to this," notes James Suckling in his 96-point review, "Full-bodied with layered, velvety tannins ... punctuated and defined." Wine Advocate's Monica Larner was impressed to the tune of 95 points and puts it among her most recommended wines of the vintage. At a market-best, sub-$75 price, this latest release stands as further evidence that Fuligni is a name to be included on any collector's short list for the finest expressions of a given Brunello vintage. From a producer who needs no introduction, the [Krug "Grande Cuvée" 170ème Édition Brut Champagne]( continues a sterling track record and knocks it out of the park. Based on the superb yet still underrated 2014 vintage and containing reserve wines dating to 1998, the 170th edition is yet another must-have collectible for any serious Champagne enthusiast. "A definite buy and keeper," according to Decanter, its "precise, chiseled profile" supports a classically rich Krug style that longtime fans of the house will instantly recognize. Initial press is already indicating another great rendition, and as time goes by, this exceptional example of luxury Champagne will only rack up more and more accolades on its way to a long, thrilling evolution in the cellar.
