Guaranteed to sell out in a flash... Wednesday Sep 21st, 2022 [View in Browser]( [KL-emailheader.gif]( New Release of an All-Time Best-Selling California Cabernet [2016 Hawk and Horse Red Hills-Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon (Elsewhere $75)]( ($24.95) "Big and saturated, this brawny but balanced wine overflows with well-matched oak spices and impressively ripe black-fruit flavors." — Wine Enthusiast --------------------------------------------------------------- Sometimes a great offer on a seriously delicious wine comes along, checks all the right boxes, and—once the word gets out—goes faster than anticipated. So, when the opportunity presents itself to secure a follow up vintage of the same wine, we simply can’t refuse. Case in point: the 2016 Hawk and Horse Red Hills Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon. If you were lucky enough to secure a few bottles of their 2013 or 2014 vintages that we offered last year, you’ll want to move fast on this rendition as well, especially considering the epic stature of the 2016 vintage in Napa and the surrounding areas. Given the pedigree and terroir, you would expect a hefty price tag, but once again we’re able to offer this Lake County stunner at an unbelievable $24.99, and we don’t expect this to be around long either. If Hawk and Horse is not on your radar, rest assured that consultant Dr. Richard Peterson (Screaming Eagle, Beaulieu Vineyard, Atlas Peak) is cementing this biodynamic estate’s reputation as a Lake County leader for poised, top-notch, cellar-worthy reds to vie with the Napa Valley greats. Drink now or cellar it—either way it’s hands down another fantastic showing from Hawk and Horse! Cedar, cinnamon and nutmeg are followed by blackberry and black cherry that ride the velvety tannins into a lingering finish. It's best through at least 2028. *Cellar Selection*" Woodhouse]( | K&L Domestic Buyer | Review Date: August 26, 2022 The last two vintages of Hawk and Horse Cabernet we offered both went down as two of the best-selling and most requested wines in the history of K&L! And now, after a long wait, it's back with the stunning, powerful 2016 release. To recap the story behind this wine, Hawk and Horse is a high elevation estate in Lake County's Red Hills AVA. This region's rugged volcanic soils and propensity to produce deeply concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon has attracted iconic producers such as Beckstoffer and Beringer to name a few. They have invested heavily in the area, believing in its potential to rival nearby mountainous regions of Napa Valley such as Howell and Diamond Mountain. The folks at Hawk and Horse are some of the most highly regarded growers in Lake County. The estate is strictly farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles (Demeter Certified) to produce the purest expression of this formidable terroir. The consulting winemaker at Hawk and Horse is the legendary Dr. Richard Peterson. With more than 60 years of experience, Peterson was the founding winemaker at Screaming Eagle before passing the torch to his daughter Heidi Peterson Barrett, who went on to become one of the most famed cult winemakers in Napa's long history. But enough backstory. What about the wine itself, you say? Well, the wine can speak for itself. Deep purple fruit, mulberry, blackcurrant, some earthy red fruit too. Plenty of briary tones, camphor, cedar, cigar box, iron. Significant structural tannins speak clearly of the wine's mountain origin, as does the crushed rock minerality. This is not a ripe, fruit-bomb, valley floor wine. It's mountain-grown through and through. Oh, and the price—yeah, that's correct, 60+% off the winery's SRP. The only question is, how many bottles do you need? [Michael Benoit]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: August 28, 2022 If you're looking for a bold, full-bodied red, but one with acid, structure, and balance, you won't find one much better than the 2016 Hawk and Horse Cabernet, especially at this price point! With an expressive nose full of black plums, cranberries, and dusty blackberries, and a palate rich with juicy dark fruit, it's got all the flavor and power you could want in a California Cabernet. But what really makes this wine stand out for me is its poise; the fruit flavors are full, but never jammy, and the oak is well-integrated, providing a delicate hint of toasty vanilla and underscoring the wine's lovely, fine-grained tannins. A great buy and a fantastic value! Overby]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: August 26, 2022 The 2016 Hawk and Horse Cabernet has this lovely nose of packed black fruit and berries. Blackberry, ripe mission figs, and sweet black plums intermingled with baker's chocolate and cedar. The hints of earthiness in this bottling make this a bold and upright wine fit for further aging. But drink this now because these tannins are bold, and the flavors are assertive. This is Cabernet that is sure to satisfy an appetite that wants the heaviness of a wine that feels deep and viscous in the mouth but layered enough in its flavors to sip at leisure. --------------------------------------------------------------- [New Feed]( [Auction]( [Local]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [On the Trail (K&L Blog)]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [Instagram]( [Instagram]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [BORDEAUX]( | [NAPA]( | [BURGUNDY]( | [CHAMPAGNE]( | [ITALY]( | [RHÔNE]( | [SPIRITS]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [My Account]( | [Wine Clubs]( | [Events]( |[Gift Cards]( | [Accessories]( | [Delivery]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Missed an offer?
