A wild, spice-inflected bouquet evokes dried red berries, cherry compote, smoked game and succulent flowers. Chewy and well-concentrated on the palate, offering subtly sweet raspberry, cherry, floral pastille and smoked meat flavors that pick up a smoky mineral element with aeration. In a decidedly Old World style, showing solid grip and powerful mineral thrust on the long, gently tannic finish. (JR)" (10/2018) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This beloved annual bottling by Randall Grahm blends 39% Mourvèdre, 33% Grenache, 26% Syrah and 2% Cinsaut to create a very savory, Old World-style expression, with aromas of roasted game, pencil shavings, dried red fruits and blood. The palate is very iron-rich and rustic, with uncrushed black peppercorns and raw and dried meat flavors. (MK)" (12/2017) Woodhouse]( | K&L Domestic Buyer | Review Date: May 10, 2022 A truly remarkable wine at a remarkable price. Our winery-direct relationship continues to turn up gems like this at 50% off original SRP. We previously offered the 2013 vintage of Le Cigare Volant Reserve, and it sold out in a flash. To refresh your memory, the Reserve bottling is a best-lot selection of the traditional Cigare Volant that is chosen to spend an extra 18 months aging sur lie in small, five gallon-glass carboys or demijohns. This extended aging in a totally neutral vessel gives the wine added layers of complexity, a profoundly silky texture and enhances its continued ageing potential. The 2012 bottling is sourced from some of the oldest and most renowned Rhône variety vineyards in California if not the world! First, 100+-year-old Mourvèdre from the historic Del Barba Vineyard in Oakley. Then a portion of Cinsault from the legendary Bechtold Vineyard in Lodi planted in 1886 (the oldest known Cinsault vines on the planet)! These ancient vine elements are combined with cool-climate Syrah from Bien Nacido and what Randall calls "weapons grade" Grenache from the foot of the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey. All of these elements combine to create a wine that pays true homage to the iconic wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape but at the same time shows California's true prowess when it comes to Rhône-inspired blends in the hands of a masterful winemaker. The wine shows wonderfully complex notes of dried rose petal, dark macerated cherry, smoked plum, bramble fruit, savory cured meat, dried herbs, scorched earth, leather, and woodsy spices. It has super-fine-grained tannins and a silky texture on the palate, complementing the lovely interplay of dark fruit and savory, gamey, earthy elements. It's a benchmark wine for New World Rhône blends from one of the most celebrated and revered winemakers of a generation. This wine will likely never be produced again and most certainly will never be seen again at this price point. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2018 Etude "Grace Benoist Ranch Estate" Carneros Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $40)]( Etude "Grace Benoist Ranch Estate" Carneros Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $40)]( ($29.95) 94 points James Suckling: "Vivid strawberry and dried-flower aromas here with hints of sandalwood. Medium to full body with firm, creamy tannins and a tangy finish. Opulent. Tight and focused. Pumice and black and white-pepper notes." (09/2020) 92 points Wine & Spirits: "Jon Priest blends this wine from the varied volcanic soils at Etude's estate vineyard in northwestern Carneros. A contrast of bright spice and dark savor, the wine's berry-scented fruit buzzes with honeyed energy, a kind of sweet earthiness that feels cool and clean. Braised quail would match its sumptuous texture. (JG)" (04/2021) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Fine-textured and powerful, this is filled with savory richness to the focused dried red fruit and berry flavors that are backed by fresh acidity. The firm finish shows forest floor and mineral notes. (KM)" (09/2021) Woodhouse]( | K&L Domestic Buyer | Review Date: March 25, 2022 Etude has a 40-year history as one of the founding properties of the Carneros region. Under the expert guidance of founding winemaker Tony Soter, Etude established a reputation as one the premier Pinot Noir specialists in all of the new world. The current winemaker, Jon Priest, was hand-selected by Soter to replace him and has been crafting the wines since 2005. The estate's vines are now fully mature and producing stunning fruit. The 2018 Grace Benoist Ranch bottling is a beautiful bottle of truly satisfying Pinot Noir. There's a nice generosity to the wine, with rich dark cherry fruit, raspberry compote, bramble, baking spice, sandalwood, some dry leaves, and subtle wood smoke. Lush and juicy on the palate with perfect ripeness and lifted spice tones. This wine has been selling really well in our stores and has a lot of repeat customers, so we decided to negotiate a great price, buy in deep, and get it into the hands (and glasses) of as many folks as possible. It's a very crowd-pleasing style with beautiful purity of fruit and immaculate balance throughout. There's no surprise that this Carneros classic has quickly become a real favorite around here! There are very few $30 Pinots I can recommend that even come close to the quality you'll find here. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2016 Saxon Brown "Sangiacomo Vineyard - Green Acres Hill" Carneros Chardonnay (Previously $60)]( Saxon Brown "Sangiacomo Vineyard - Green Acres Hill" Carneros Chardonnay (Previously $60)]( ($29.95) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Chardonnay Sangiacomo Vineyard Green Acres Hill features orange blossom, quince, white peach and slivered almonds scents on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied in the mouth with intense honeyed fruits, great freshness and a lively, mineral-tinged finish. (EB)" (04/2019) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A ripe and plush style, with buttery accents to the baked apple, roasted pineapple and pear tart flavors. The spicy finish is loaded with pastry hints. (KM)" (05/2019) Woodhouse]( | K&L Domestic Buyer | Review Date: February 22, 2022 This is such a classic Carneros Chardonnay from a top-notch vineyard owned and farmed by one of the very best growers in the region. The glass overflows with floral tones, honeysuckle and plumeria. Then rich, baked orchard fruit, honeyed poached pear, pie crust, almond paste, pine nut, and subtle butterscotch. Beautifully integrated oak spice and a creamy texture is balanced by a freshening acidity on the finish that provides a nice contrast to the upfront richness of the wine. This is a real beauty for folks that love a fuller California Chard but without the oaky, buttery elements overpowering the purity of the fruit and the quality of the vineyard. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2016 Siduri "La Encantada Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $50+)]( Siduri "La Encantada Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $50+)]( ($29.99) 93 points Vinous: "Lurid ruby. Vibrant and focused on the nose displaying intense red berry preserve Asian spice and floral scents and a touch of smoky minerality. Juicy and sharply focused on the palate offering lively raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that deepen and unfurl steadily with aeration. Fine-grained tannins add framework and closing grip to the finish which echoes the red fruit and mineral notes. (JR)" (10/2018) 92+ points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Pinot Noir La Encantada Vineyard saw 20% stems and spent 15 months in 40% new French oak. It offers more spice, dried flowers, and dried soil notes as well as more red fruits. Medium bodied, supple, with plenty of tannic grip, it's a beautiful, complex wine that should evolve nicely." (02/2019) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Quite subtle at first on the nose, this bottling offers baked red-cherry aromas and a dusting of soil with some swirling. The palate blends dark red cherry with touches of sagebrush and wild thyme, lifted by a hint of white pepper. (MK)" (12/2018) Woodhouse]( | K&L Domestic Buyer | Review Date: March 09, 2022 Here's the latest in a stellar run of incredible end-of-vintage deals we've managed to secure from Pinot Noir icon Siduri. Winemaker Adam Lee is one of the most renowned craftsmen in a generation when working with this fickle varietal. With him at the helm, Siduri has forged a reputation for making some of the finest, most expressive single-vineyard Pinot Noirs in the country over the past several decades. This 2016 bottling hails from the esteemed La Encantada Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills. This vineyard designate is typically seen only on significantly more expensive bottlings. Our direct relationship back to the source has been able to bring these wines to you at a huge discount, with each one selling out fast. Drinking beautifully with five years in bottle, the 2016 La Encantada is at a perfect spot in its development, where the primary fruit is just starting to allow some more complex flavors show through while still supplying ample, juicy red fruit, and exotic Asian spice. Subtle leather and earthy truffle notes run through the mid-palate, while lifted aromas of star anise and cumin mingle with crushed raspberry and cherry pit. A quick decant heightens all of these characteristics and fleshes out the fruit profile nicely. What a steal for a nicely aged Pinot from a great vineyard and a world-class winemaker. Limited supply. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2018 Maggy Hawk "Jory Hills Vineyard" Dundee Hills Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $65)]( Maggy Hawk "Jory Hills Vineyard" Dundee Hills Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $65)]( ($39.95) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Opens with a silky texture and then finds an intense beam of loamy acidity and savory tannins that are framed by spirited cherry and basil blossom accents and build richness and tension on the finish. Drink now through 2029." (03/2021) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium ruby, the 2018 Pinot Noir Jory Hills Vineyard features bright cranberries and blackberries with touches of licorice, charcuterie and dusty earth. The medium-bodied palate is concentrated, savory, earthy and seamlessly framed, finishing very long and spicy. This has a pleasant rusticity that fans of earthier styles will enjoy." (12/2020) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smooth, dark and toasty wine. It's layered with whiffs of smoke, espresso and black licorice, matched with dark fruit flavors of black cherry and cassis. It's a big, balanced, sexy wine with polished tannins that leave a trail of tobacco highlights." (12/2020) Woodhouse]( | K&L Domestic Buyer | Review Date: June 07, 2022 I could hardly believe my ears when I heard the special deal price on this stunning, single-vineyard bottling of Maggy Hawk! But once it had sunk in, I backed up the proverbial truck! This is top-class Pinot Noir from Jory Hills Vineyard in the famed Willamette Valley sub-region of Dundee Hills. This hillside site is nestled alongside other "Grand Cru"-caliber vineyards like Bergström, Julliard, and Archery Summit's Red Hills Vineyard. Named for the bright red, volcanic clay loam or "Jory" soil, the wine showcases why this small sub-region has put Oregon on the map for world-class Pinot Noir. Bright red fruit aromas soar from the glass, along with baking spice, pine needle, and forest floor. On the palate, raspberry compote, fresh-picked cherry, more exotic spices, and woodsy tones. It has an ample, velvety texture on the palate. I love this area's ability to produce rich, powerful Pinot Noir without being over the top or losing the freshness and layered delicacy the grape is known for. This is simply a fantastic expression of a highly regarded site that you just don't see at this price point. The critical acclaim is unanimous and suggests that the best is yet to come as it enters peak drinking. Pinot lovers take note and don't snooze on this one. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2016 Sterling "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Elsewhere $75)]( Sterling "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Elsewhere $75)]( ($39.95) 93 points James Suckling: "Aromas and flavors of blueberries, blackberries and hints of violets follow through to a medium to full body, firm, silky tannins and a caressing finish." (02/2019) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Dark in profile and warm in feel, with fig and black currant reduction flavors rolling through, lined with subtle espresso and black licorice notes. The finish offers an alder thread that adds contrast. (JM)" (11/2020) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga Reserve is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color, it sings of crème de cassis, blackberry pie and chocolate-covered cherries with touches of mocha, dried mint, tilled soil and moss-covered tree bark. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit and earthy layers with a firm, grainy frame, finishing with lovely vibrancy. (LPB)" (08/2020) Woodhouse]( | K&L Domestic Buyer | Review Date: April 07, 2022 Here's a jaw-dropping deal in pedigreed Napa Cabernet! Sterling has long been a standout producer in the valley with a solid reputation for powerful, intense wines produced from their extensive estate holdings on Diamond Mountain and in Calistoga. This 2016 Reserve bottling is from two great Calistoga vineyardsâBear Flats and Frediani. This is a bold, powerful style of Cabernet with tons of ripe blackberry, mulberry, and cassis fruit. This rich, decadent fruit is tempered by some lovely, gravelly minerals and cigar box tones. Subtle hints of mint oil and dark chocolate, too. The wine has ample structure to handle the sheer weight of fruit, but having some time in bottle has really brought this wine together, and it's singing in harmony right now, showing just how great the 2016 vintage is. We got a fantastic price on a parcel of this wine and are bringing it to you at almost 50% off the SRP! --------------------------------------------------------------- [2014 Samsara "Melville Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (Previously $60+)]( Samsara "Melville Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (Previously $60+)]( ($39.99) 94 points Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard is the most polished and silky of this range of Pinots. Bright, red-toned fruit, orange zest, mint and rose petal lead into the seamless, silky finish. The Melville is a wine of exceptional beauty and finesse. Moreover, the balance of fruit, acid and tannin is impeccable. (AG)" (09/2017) 93+ points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard is very subtle on the nose, revealing gentle pomegranate and rhubarb nuances with fragrant earth and moss hints. Medium-bodied, with the fruit and earth layers tightly wound and compressed like a spring, it has a firm backbone of chewy tannins and great freshness, finishing with lingering herb and mineral notes. (LPB)" (09/2017) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Melville is a blend of Clone 667 and Pommard. Its a big, sweetly fruited beauty readers are going to love. Framboise, red currants, salty minerality and hints of dusty/loamy notes flow to a ripe, sexy, mouth-filling Pinot Noir that has sweet tannin and a great finish." (08/2017) Woodhouse]( | K&L Domestic Buyer | Review Date: February 17, 2022 I'll start all my Samsara reviews like this: These wines are stunning across the board. They are all beautifully made and have aged gracefully. Being able to buy them with 7-9 years of age at a significantly discounted price is an opportunity I urge you to take advantage of ASAP. These are top-quality Pinots in prime drinking windows with tons and class and character. Now I'll try and describe each in turn! This bottling is from winemaker Chad Melville's own esteemed family estate in the northern reaches of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. The vines here grow in sandy loam soils with layers of clay. Samsara took six rows of Pinot Noir including 667 and Pommard Clone. Definitely the most fruit-forward of the wines in the line-up. Lovely, pure, deep red fruit, ripe cherry, bramble fruit, Asian spices, silky texture, and plushness on the palate. It still has beautiful freshness and lift, but certainly has more upfront fruit than its stable mates. A real charmer here! Stromer]( | K&L Domestic Buyer | Review Date: March 01, 2022 It should come as no surprise that this bottling is one of the brightest stars in this line-up of stellar wines. Founded by Chad Melville as a passion project while still running the Melville winery, Samsara has turned out a line-up of wines that basically act as a study in terroir for the Sta. Rita hills AVA. While Chad was sourcing only the best vineyards in the region, his intimate knowledge of the Melville sites would enable him to select some of the best fruit on the family property. This wine has got it all, and it's in a really good drinking window. There's plenty of primary fruit, but the taster can sense how well all the components have integrated. This is near perfection in a glass. --------------------------------------------------------------- [New Feed]( [Auction]( [Local](
