But after early July the growing season turned magical—it was about as good as any vigneron could ask for. The resulting wines are approachable and dynamic, and for many châteaux, 2018 will serve up reference-point examples. Some of our early arrivals have reminded us once again how flat out delicious this vintage can be and have us even more excited for our pre-arrival opportunities that are due to land soon. Although the pricing has certainly climbed since that magical moment, the wines themselves have continued to show their high-end caliber as wines of refinement, brightness, and depth. Some properties like d'Issan and Phélan-Ségur seemed to have produced best-ever efforts, while the Left and Right Banks shared in the many successes enjoyed in the vintage.
