[Woodlands Vineyards] --------------------------------------------------------------- To close out the year, we've got an exceptional set of new arrivals starting with the 2017 Woodlands "Clémentine" Cabernet/Merlot Margaret River Western Australia. This wonderful, 96-point value stunner hails from arguably the greatest region in Australia for Bordeaux varietals, and for a shockingly reasonable price of just $32.99, you can get collectible-level QPR that simply can't be beat. As Vinous describes it, "In the context of high-end Australian red wine, this one delivers remarkable value." Perhaps the most exciting development in American wine in recent years has been the emergence of the Willamette Valley in Oregon as a source of world-class Chardonnay. Wine Advocate's newly released report shines a spectacular light on what's going on in the Pacific Northwest. An impeccable duo from boutique star Walter Scott presents two of the best buys we've found in the category—the WA94 2020 Bois-Moi and the 2019 WA98 Freedom Hill Vineyard. The former "has broad, honeyed fruits enlivened by bright acidity," while the latter, "offers textural breadth, expansive flavors and incredible length, with singular aromas combining pure citrus with youthful flintiness." This is a can't-miss pair of definitive examples of the new frontier in American Chardonnay. Finally, a perennial superstar Châteauneuf estate brings us a quintessential expression from the outrageously great 2019 vintage. The 2019 Vieille Julienne Les Trois Sources is another smash hit, with Jeb Dunnuck writing in his 96-point review, "this incredibly concentrated, textured wine has perfect balance, building tannins, and a great finish." It's an impeccable blend of sites from sandy soils in the northern part of the appellation, made entirely from estate-grown fruit that also produces Vieille Julienne's astounding single-vineyard wines.
