(KO)" (11/2016) St. Clair]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: February 07, 2017 Tenuta di Sesta is our most elegant Rosso. It is subtle and has a more feminine grace, but underneath that obvious restraint lies a wine full of complexity and intrigueit just takes a bit of time to open up (Id decant for an hour if you have the chancealso, they will age wonderfully for another 45 years). The soil here is rich in marl and limestone, the perfect foil to harness Sangioveses vigor and allow the vine to produce complexity rather than bulk. Long, balanced and so flavorful, this wine is ideal for roasted pork tenderloin with a bit of rosemary, sea salt and black pepper. So good, youll need to buy more! [2016 Kalinda North Coast Reserve Sauvignon Blanc]( [2016 Kalinda North Coast Reserve Sauvignon Blanc]( ($17.99) We can tell you this much: our Kalinda private label hooks you up with awesome wine at a fraction of what you'd otherwise pay for this exact same wine under its normal label. While we have to remain quiet about the source of this beauty, we can tell you that it sells elsewhere under the winery label at a much higher premium. Get it while it lasts. Beffa Jr.]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: February 15, 2017 I give this a perfect score and it is the best Sauvignon Blanc we have made so far. And that goes back to the first one 1984 from Boeger (still holding great color). This wine was made by a very famous winemaker from a very famous winery in the Napa Valley. Hint- Mr Parker scored this winemaker as "winemaker of the year" a few years ago. And that is winemaker of the year for the whole world as we know it.Perfumey, floral aromas mixed with citrus nuances. Rich and lively on the palate-great zest and verve. Some spice, some lime and a very toasty character. Summer is approaching but this will do well served with a chicken dish. [2014 Fredi Torres "Classic" Priorat]( [2014 Fredi Torres "Classic" Priorat]( ($24.99) 94 points James Suckling: "Beautiful and aromatic with red cherries and cranberries plus slate undertones. Medium to full body, a super-soft texture, silky fine-grained tannins and a long, savory finish. A wonderful and elegant wine. Drink now or hold." (12/2016) K&L Notes: Fredi Torres has been steadily making a name for himself in the Montsant and Priorat regions. A leader of the new school in Priorat, Fredi prefers to let the fruit in the vineyard do the talking, playing around with some whole clusters and preferring that the oak imprint be dialed back in his wines. In this case, 85% of the wine ages in tanks while the remainder spends 10 months in barrel. This particular cuvee consists of Garnacha, Cariñena, Syrah, Cabernet, Merlot and a small proportion of white grapes, a mixture from old and young vineyards on slate and decomposed granite soils. Manekin]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: February 08, 2017 Fredi Torres was a DJ before hearing the siren call of the Priorat. Now he is one of the people often recognized as breathing new life into this famed, resurgent Catalan wine region. This bottling is as delicious an introduction to Priorat as I have tasted in quite some time. Savory thyme and Mediterranean scents lead to a palate full of dark fruits, sauvage, meaty qualities, and a persistent minerality which leaves a wonderfully fresh impression on the mid palate through to the finish. This reminds me of what I first loved about Chateaunneuf du Pape when I first tasted those wines. Pair with braised lamb or short ribs for a real treat, and toast to the future of Priorat! [2011 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino]( [2011 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino]( ($34.99) 90 points James Suckling: "A soft, velvety red with plummy, juicy flavors. Full body, lovely tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink now." (02/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The La Fortuna 2011 Brunello di Montalcino reminds us of the elegant and nuanced side of Sangiovese that can be harnessed even in a challenging vintage like this. Despite the warm growing season, this wine shows depth and precision with wild berry tones that are followed by lingering aromas of balsam herb and licorice." (08/2016) Parres]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: January 03, 2017 Gioberto Zannoni and his son Angelo have hit another one out of the ballpark with this vintage, gorgeous core of perfumed ripe fruit, plum, cassis and kirsch, some leather and cola mid-palate and earthiness that meld into bitter cocoa powder, spices and minerals on the finish. Lush, and flows across your palate, long finish-- just WOW! The perfect wine to serve all winter long. [Franck Bonville Brut Rosé Champagne]( [Franck Bonville Brut Rosé Champagne]( ($39.99) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Sleek and vinous in style, with a soft and creamy mousse and finely meshed flavors of steeped raspberry, ground anise, graphite and smoke. Offers a lightly savory finish of slivered almond and aromatic dried herb. Drink now through 2020. (AN)" (12/2015) K&L Notes: This little bottle of rosé is delicious! This is the first time we have had the rosé from Bonville, an estate that grows only Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs. Olivier Bonville was able to trade with Ambonnay celebrity-producer Paul Dethune for the red wine that goes into this blend of 92% Chardonnay and 8% Pinot Noir. You might wonder what such a small dash of Pinot would do besides add color, and I was skeptical myself. The results are great--this wine has the freshness and drinkability of the Brut Selection, but with great black cherry Pinot character in the middle. This is a must try for any fans of rosé! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer) Vintage blend is 67% 2011, 18% 2012 and 15% 2010. Dosage is 9.5g/l. Westby]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: March 03, 2015 This elegant, driven Champagne is my top rose for serving as the aperitif. A colleague of mine once bought a case of this for his wife, and half of it was consumed the first night at a quite small dinner party... The Franck Bonville Brut Rose is a little bit too easy to drink! If you want some of the intrigue of Pinot Noir but with the structure of a dry Blanc de Blancs, you have found it! [2012 Prunotto Barolo]( [2012 Prunotto Barolo]( ($46.99) 91 points James Suckling: "Fresh and aromatic with orange peel, watermelon and strawberry aromas. Medium to full body, tight and fine tannins and a delicious finish. A beautiful Barolo to drink now and in the future." (03/2016) Schroeder]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: November 08, 2016 This is an elegant and refined Barolo, already showing finesse and roundness through all that Nebbiolo power. It showcases aromas of sweet, savory red berry fruit with underlying raspberry, spices and herbs. Its tannins are ultra fine and fully integrated, and a delicate but powerful mid-palate texture leads through to a finish well-accented by soft acid. Delicious Barolo ready to be enjoyed for years to come! [Green Spot Single Pure Pot Still Irish Whiskey (750ml)]( [Green Spot Single Pure Pot Still Irish Whiskey (750ml)]( ($49.99) The elusive Green Spot Whiskey is finally here. This legendary whiskey is partly responsible for the resurgence in popularity of pure pot still whiskey, the traditional Irish method of whiskey production. Green Spot began as the house brand for a Dublin wine merchant Mitchell & Sons. After consolidation of the Irish Whiskey market, Mitchell & Sons negotiated an agreement to be provided a small quantity of whiskey to support the brand. The current blend consists of 8-9 year old whiskey of which 25% is aged in sherry casks. Fewer than 1,000 cases are produced a year. What was once the most difficult to find Irish Whiskey in the world has no burst back onto the scene and along with Red Breast represents some of the best values available in any category of whiskey today. This old school style Irish contains no column distilled grain whiskey and is 100% pot-stilled. The result is a rich and robust texture with the renowned soft complexity of Irish Whiskey intact. This is all brought together with a multi-year finish in high quality sherry butts. This is whiskey you can give to ANYONE and be sure their mind will be blown. Othenin-Girard]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: April 30, 2015 Green Spot has been the holy grail of Irish Whiskey since my start in this business nearly 10 years ago. I remember a famous restaurant in Los Angeles used to display a bottle on the bar (smuggled illegally) but refuse to pour it unless you owned the place. When I finally convinced them to let me taste, I finally understood why everybody made such a big deal out of it. The legacy of the prominent Dublin wine merchant, Mitchell & Sons, who'd matured and bottled those original stocks of sherry cask pure pot still whiskey, is solidly considered one of the world's great whiskies. Today it's aged at Midleton to a specific recipe, from one of the distillery's three pure pot still recipes. This is not a smack-you-in-the-mouth powerful whiskey like the Red Breast cask strength. Instead, it's supple and soft and drinks like a dream. This is probably why Irish Whiskey was the best selling whiskey before Prohibition and they responded to the popularity of blended Scotch with consolidation and the creation of blended Irish, a style Irish distillers had resisted until the 1970s. We bought all we could get and have no clue when we'll be getting more. [1987 Domaine de Baraillon 29 Year Old K&L Exclusive Armagnac (750ml)]( ($79.99) David Driscoll writes: "One of my favorite things about the Baraillon Armagnacs is that they taste a little farmy. They're rustic and unpolished, despite their supple richness." [2013 Fuenteseca Huerta Singular "El Maguey" Blanco Tequila (750ml)]( ($79.99) What specifically makes Enrique's single-site expression so incredible? Let's start with the aromatics. From the minute you pop the cork and begin nosing the bottle, sweet smells of incense, roasted agave and tropical fruit inundate the senses. Absent entirely are the aromas of pepper, savory spice or vegetal notes that usually accompany the fruitier tones. It's as hedonistic as unadulterated tequila can smell, in my experience; but the spirit is not without spice on the whole. The first sip builds on those enticing aromas, but a huge dollop of baking spices, sweet agave nectar and candied papaya lights up the palate before they take hold. I can't reiterate strongly enough the pure and electric nature of the roasted agave flavor. I'm not sure how many people have ever chewed on a piece of cooked blue agave, but having done so numerous times I can safely tell you that never have I tasted this literal of a translation into the spirit itself. The finish is where all of these elements come into focus. The lift of the baking spices builds with the alcohol and turns into sweet citrus. The roasted agave notes breathe heavily thereafter and the combination lingers for a full minute before fading gracefully. Tasting this blanco is like taking your first sip of Haut-Brion or Richebourg; it's on that level of sophistication. It's the best blanco tequila available, pure and simple, and it sets a new bar for other producers to follow. (David Driscoll, Spirits Buyer) Driscoll]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: February 03, 2017 I'm not sure what I'll need to do to communicate the importance of this tequila in my staff review. SHOULD I WRITE IN ALL CAPS? Should I gush in a never ending river of superlatives and praise? There's never been a tequila like this before at K&L. Never has one producer made dozens of different distillates from various agave fields on various properties, in search of the ultimate single-site (or huerta) blue tequila expression, but that's what this blanco edition of Fuenteseca represents. Enrique Fonseca's quest to find singularity and terroir in tequila, but for the purpose of heightened quality, not some silly modern marketing gimmick to capitalize on locavore fashion. It's what the monks did a thousand years ago in Burgundy. It's what Champagne growers and Cognac distillers have done for centuries. For all this time, producers of fine wine and spirits in Europe have located their top sites and made individual expressions to showcase the heightened quality of those particular parcels. Why is it that no one in Jalisco has thought of doing this? You'll see single vintage tequila, or single estate tequila every now and again, but the reality is that these producers aren't actually choosing between agave fields. They only have one field at their disposal, so there's nothing really special about it. But Enrique Fonseca is the largest single landowner of agave in all of Jalisco! He has more agave fields than any other tequila producer i [1976 Domaine de Baraillon 40 Year Old K&L Exclusive Armagnac (750ml)]( ($129.99) David Driscoll writes: "One of my favorite things about the Baraillon Armagnacs is that they taste a little farmy. They're rustic and unpolished, despite their supple richness." [2014 Lewis Cellars "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon]( ($159.99) The 2014 Reserve Cabernet has radiant color and soaring aromas of blackberry, black truffle and cappuccino. The texture is fleshy and supple, and the flavors are rich and layered. [2002 Krug Brut Champagne]( [2002 Krug Brut Champagne]( ($259.00) 100 points James Suckling: "The much-anticipated 2002 has impeccable detail and depth with a lot of chalky, stony and flinty elements on the nose as well as a very fresh edge. The nose is very complex and wound up tight but presents itself as very integrated and compressed. There are aromas of lemon rind, lime juice and a lime custard all at once, complemented in turn by a super-restrained hazelnut-like edge. Undertones of brown mushrooms, chalky minerals and lemon leaf. The palate has a core of sizzlingly intense, concentrated chardonnay framed whitin a powerful phenolic structure that will underpin the future of this Champagne. Flawlessly fresh and as perfect as it gets. Give this time as it needs to settle: best from 2020 and then for another decade beyond." (10/2016) 100 points Wine & Spirits: "This has the stamina of the 2002 vintage from the first scent, a fragrance like pear skin and butterscotch, and something fresher, like meadow flowers. All of that fragrance comes in a wine thats expansive and dry, almost austere in the power of its acidity. Over the course of several days, the wine remains impervious to the fraying of oxidation, instead building on its flavors, deepening to scents of white truffles. Initially, the power of the acidity not only cleans up after the wines substantial flavor, but also seems to lash all those notes together and rocket them through a buzz of energy that lasts for minutes. That energy, undiminished four days later, when the bubbles have finally gone, takes on a gentler power, presenting the harmony and elegance at the center of the wine. The 2002 may well be the greatest vintage wine Henri Krug produced during his four-decade career." (12/2016) 100 points Wine Enthusiast: " *Cellar Selection* This is a fabulous wine from the greatest Champagne vintage so far this century. Still young, it blends almost equal amounts of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fleshed out with Pinot Meunier. The minerality and the rich apple and green fruits are balanced, and acidity cuts into the wine with a pure, perfumed line of freshness. The wine could be drunk now, but it will age well into the the 2020s. (RV)" (12/2016) [2013 E. Guigal "La Mouline" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)]( ($269.99) 94-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tight, unevolved and borderline backwards (which is rare for this cuvée), the 2013 Côte Rôtie La Mouline is a wine that reminds Marcel Guigal of the 2006. It offers a terrific perfume of spiced red and black fruits, violets, lots of minerality and even a hint of damp forest floor to go with a full-bodied, elegant, seamless style on the palate. Its not the most massive wine in the lineup, but it has terrific purity, fine, polished tannin and beautiful length. It should dish out ample pleasure over the coming 20 years. (JD)" (12/2016) [2013 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)]( ($269.99) 95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A bigger, richer wine than the La Mouline, the 2013 Côte Rôtie La Turque offers full-bodied, layered and almost decadent notes of blackcurrants, chocolate, cassis and toasted spice. This beauty has building tannic grip, a layered, concentrated mid-palate and serious lengthall pointing to a long, healthy life. Forget bottles for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades. (JD)" (12/2016) Jancis Robinson: "Sumptuous and gorgeous, glowing with health and vivacity. Leather toffee, if such a thing existed! Really impressive. The sample probably held up better because from the Côte Brune. 18.5/20 points (JR)" (10/2014) [2013 E. Guigal "La Landonne" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)]( ($279.99) 97-99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The inky black-colored 2013 Côte Rôtie La Landonne is certainly one of the gems in the vintage, and it has more texture, depth and richness than just about every other wine out there. Charred fruits, black, black fruits, espresso, crushed rock and wood smoke all emerge from this full-bodied, concentrated Côte Rôtie that certainly shows a masculine style, yet still possesses incredible purity and elegance. (JD)" (12/2016) [2013 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (in 6pk OWC)]( - 10 available ($1,899.00) 100 points James Suckling: "The aromas to this are multidimensional and fascinating with black truffles, bark, cloves, black currants and citrus - even ginseng. Full-bodied, yet reserved, even austere, with chewy and powerful tannins that remain polished and refined. The flavors are more umami and savory. Then there's forest fruits and red orange undertones. It lasts for minutes. A wine to age for a lifetime. It's an experience to taste this. A new classic showing its history and tradition as a source of the greatest wines ever from Napa. A wine to always enjoy." (01/2016) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Dominus is, to my way of thinking, one of the most profound wines Christian Moueix has yet made in his rather brilliant winemaking history, both in France and in Napa Valley. This wine, with very low yields of only 3,500 cases and a final blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, offers up notes of cedar wood, forest floor, loamy soil and oodles of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Very opaque purple in color, super-pure and intense, this wine has low acidity, but ripe, noticeable tannins. This is a 30- to 40-year wine and a profound effort from this famous vineyard in Yountville. Drink it over the next 40+ years. (RP)" (10/2015) 100 points Vinous: "The 2013 Dominus overwhelms all the senses with its magnificent overall balance and towering intensity. Deep and nearly impenetrable in the glass, the 2013 boasts off the charts dry extract and overall power. Violets, smoke, black cherries, menthol, incense, crème de cassis and dark spices are some of the many signatures that take shape in the glass. Even better in bottle than it was in barrel, the 2013 is utterly magnificent. This is a remarkably vivid, nuanced wine considering its sheer size. (AG)" (01/2015) K&L Notes: PLEASE NOTE: This product is 6 bottles in its Original Wooden Case (OWC), sold only as a 6-bottle case to protect ideal provenance.
